USA Swimming Confirms 690 Athletes Have Earned Their Spot On The Scholastic All-American Team

USA Swimming honors high school swimmers that excel in the pool as well as the classroom. Today, the USA Swimming Stats Twitter account announced that 690 student-athletes have already been selected for the 2012-2013 Scholastic All-American team. This list is not finalized yet; applications for the 2012-2013 school year are being accepted until August 21, 2013.

To be eligible for this honor, you have to be a sophomore, junior, or senior in high school, hold above a 3.5 GPA, and be a USA Swimming member athlete. Click here to view the qualifying times. USA Swimming will validate swims through their database. Open water swimmers and swimmers with disabilities are also eligible. There is a list of qualifying meets for these swimmers on the USA Swimming website.

As of today, the Southern Zone has the most confirmed members on the Scholastic All-American team with 214 swimmers. The Eastern Zone has 173 confirmed members, the Central Zone has 161 confirmed members, and the Western Zone has 142 confirmed members.

I’m assuming that the 3.5 GPA standard is unweighted (i.e. out of 4.0)?
