UNLV Commit Viola Teglassy Goes 5 for 5 in Best Times at Corvallis Oregon Senior Open

Highlighting the girls side of the meet was Viola Teglassy of Corvallis Aquatic Team. The 17 year old earned first place in all of her individual swims, including prelims. Teglassy won the 100 breast in a 1:02.78, a best time by almost three seconds. That also earned her first Summer Juniros cut.

She also had a huge drop in the 200 breast, dropping over six seconds to win in a 2:19.85. She also improved upon her sprint freestyle times. She won the 100 free in a 52.08, a best by over two and a half seconds. She also won the 200 free in a 1:54.89 and the 50 free in a 23.71, both were also best times.

Her times now have the potential to make a huge impact for UNLV. Her 100 breast would be second on the roster this season and her 200 breast would be third on the roster. Her 100 free would also be third on the roster, which may impact their 400 free relay.

Making it a competitive race in the 100 breast Campbell Deringer as she touched in a 1:03.19. That was a solid personal best as her previous best was a 1:04.00.

Highlighting the boys side of the Oregon Senior Open were 14 year olds Drew Eubanks of The Dolphins and Jack Wroblewski of Lake Oswego Swim Club (LOSC).  Eubanks won the 200 breast in a 2:04.33, just off his personal best of 2:04.00 which he swam at the beginning of November 2022. Wroblewski was third in the 200 breast swimming a 2:08.45. Eubanks and Wroblewski also had a competitive race in the 100 breast. Eubanks finished second in a 57.33 and Wroblewski was third in a best time of 57.82. That was a best time for Wroblewski by almost half a second.

16 year old Gabriel Schreiber of LOSC showed off his versatility winning four events. Schreiber won the 100 breast in a best time of 57.28. He also was the top seed heading into finals of the 200 breast after swimming a 2:07.79. He ended up scratching the event in finals. He swept the sprint freestyles winning the 50 in a 21.84, the 100 in a 46.65, and the 200 in a 1:40.48.

Fellow 16 year old teammate Matthew Sexton of LOSC won the men’s 200 IN in a 1:50.32 and finished behind Schreiber in the 100 free with a 47.21. Sexton was slightly faster in the 100 free in prelims swimming a 46.96. Sexton also went a best time of 3:59.08 in the 400 IM during prelims but scratched finals of the race. A week later, he competed in the event at Winter Juniors where he went a 3:56.97.

Kyle Huang of SUNN Swimming had strong performances in the butterfly and IM events. Huang won the 100 fly in a 50.85, but was slightly faster in prelims with a personal best 50.55. He was second in the IM events swimming a 1:53.42 and a 4:01.85.
