CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI swimming and diving won 9 of 19 events against a deep Illinois State Redbird team to pick up the program’s 12th dual win of the season by a score of 198-155 on Saturday afternoon at the Glen F. Henry Pool. The Panthers also celebrated their 8 graduating senior athletes prior to Saturday’s competition.
“It was just a great overall team win,” said UNI head coach Nick Lakin. “We felt like a lot of people really stepped up across all classes and events. We came in knowing they would be a big challenge, particularly on the depth side for us, but we’re just really pleased with how the team performed.”
DAY ONE
The opening day of the two-day dual kicked off as Taylor Hogan notched a season-best score of 277.58 for a second place finish in the three-meter springboard competition. Erica Peters took third place with a score of 246.68, as Maddie Moran finished in fourth (236.63).
UNI picked up victories in 5 of the 9 swimming events on Friday night, beginning with a first place finish in the 400-yard medley relay as Amber Finke, Sydney Aird, Scout Bergwall and Faith Larsen swam a time of 3:50.53. Olivia Chambers won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:37.47, while Bergwall clinched the 200-yard butterfly title with a time of 2:08.28.
Finke edged out Illinois State’s Chloe Tyler by 1.84 second to win the 100-yard backstroke, as Hallory Domnick set a new personal-best in the 1,000-yard freestyle, swimming a 10:35.08 to record the 9th fastest time in school history.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Larsen, Finke, Abby Lear and Clare Christensen closed the night with a winning time of 1:36.10.
DAY TWO
Hogan opened the second day of competition with a season-best performance in the one-meter springboard, scoring a 262.73 as Erica Peters took fourth place with a 229.20.
The Panthers claimed first place finishes in four of Saturday’s eight swimming events, beginning with the 200-yard medley relay as Finke, Aird, Bergwall and Larsen clocked a winning time of 1:46.18. Domnick won her second distance freestyle event of the weekend in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.92, while Chambers finished closely behind with a 5:12.19.
Finke edged out Illinois State’s Cassidy Carey by a 3.03 second margin to win the 200-yard backstroke, while Larsen finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.69.
Scout Bergwall swept butterfly events with a win in the 100-yard butterfly on Saturday, notching a time of 57.69 to beat the Redbirds’ Giulia Basco by 0.08 seconds. Larsen, Taylor Short, Natalia Verastegui and Domnick closed the meet with a winning time of 3:31.76 in the 400-yard freestyle.
UP NEXT
UNI returns to dual competition next Saturday, January 21 as the Panthers visit Ames to take on Iowa State, as well as visiting West Virginia. Competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT at Beyer Hall with results available on Meet Mobile and Dive Meets.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Three Redbirds secured their second win of the weekend, but Illinois State Swim and Dive fell to UNI 198-155 as the Redbirds capped off a two-day dual with UNI Saturday.
“After a rusty start Friday night, the team came back and fought hard today,” Illinois State head coach Caitlin Hamilton said. “We are encouraged by the strong individual highlights from Eva, Madyson, Emma and Olivia across the weekend. We have some adjustments to make leading into Senior Day and MVCs. We congratulate the Panthers on a great meet and look forward to seeing them soon.”
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eva Reyes rolled to a 1M Dive win, capping off a 1M-3M sweep for the Illinois State sophomore in Cedar Falls. On the heels of a 3M win last night, she posted an overall score of 280.13 in 1M Saturday for a first-place mark. It was her fourth sweep of 1M and 3M this season.
- Fellow sophomore Emma Feltzer closed out a stellar weekend with a lifetime best time in her 100-yard freestyle win Saturday. She grabbed first with a time of 50.73, which is tied with UIC’s Poleena Kovalaska for the top time in the Valley this season. She won the 200-yard freestyle Friday with a time that ranks second in the Valley (1:50.69).
- Senior Madyson Morse also won her second event of the dual as she swam to first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.44 on Saturday. She swept the 100 and 200-yard breastroke this weekend in Cedar Falls.
- Junior Olivia Gonder secured her first win of the weekend on Saturday as she finished atop the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.63.
- The Redbirds capped off the weekend with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Morse, Giulia Basco, Mia Snow and Feltzer posted a time of 3:31.67 for first in that event.
