DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team defeated UConn, 158-142 on Saturday afternoon at Swasey Pool.
The Wildcats finished the day winning 10 of 16 events against the Huskies.
“We competed well today with a very good team in UConn,” said UNH head coach Josh Willman. “They have a lot of talent, but we are really proud of the way our way team rose to the occasion. We had a lot of in season personal bests from both divers and swimmers and we are in a good position as we get closer to the America East Championships.”
The ‘Cats took home first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.41 comprised of Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany), Jamy Lum (Honolulu, Hawaii), Chiara Pradissitto (Milan, Italy) and Cate Wardinski (Burke, Va.).
Paige Edmier (Bartlett, Ill.) earned the victory in the 1000 free with a mark of 10:34.40, while Pradissitto earned first in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.05 and the 100 fly at 57.28.
Metzler took first place with a mark of 2:03.58 in the 200 fly, while Olivia Stille (Stockholm, Sweden) notched a win in the 100 free (53.15). Metzler also earned gold in the 500 free at 5:06.53.
The ‘Cats 200-yard free relay team also took home first with a time of 1:36.89, made up of Stille, Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.), Pradissitto and Wardinski.
UNH returns to action on Sunday, January 23 against Stony Brook. Meet time from Swasey Pool in Durham, N.H. is 12 p.m. on AmericaEast.tv. The Wildcats will honor its four-member graduating class in a ceremony prior to the start of the meet, which includes Metzler, Wardinski, Ciara McCormack (Newton, Mass.) and Cassidy Wilson (Toledo, Ohio).

DURHAM, NH. – The University of Connecticut women’s swimming and diving team fell to the University of New Hampshire Saturday afternoon 158-142.
In a back and forth meet, the Huskies battled until the end but would eventually fall to the tough Wildcats. The Huskies would start the meet out strong with a sweep of the 100-yard backstroke. Sophomore Kayla Mendonca, junior Caitlin Spencer and senior Catherine Fazio would finish first second and third, and then senior Katelyn Walsh would follow the sweep with a first-place victory in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The UConn divers would continue their dominance, sweeping both the 1-meter diving, and the 3-meter diving. Sophomore Ana Laura Faoro, freshman Julia Pioso and senior Marina Wilkins would take home the 1-meter diving sweep comfortably while sophomore Ana Laura Faoro, sophomore Elizabeth Katz and freshman Julia Pioso would take home the sweep in the 3-meter diving.
UConn would continue to threaten the Wildcats following the diving events as sophomore Niamh Hofland would take home first place in the 200-yard IM, however a first-place victory by the wildcats in the 200-yard freestyle relay would secure the victory.

The Huskies will return to Storrs as they welcome Providence College February 5. The meet is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
