NORFOLK, Va. – UNCW opened its swimming and diving season with a road split at Old Dominion as the Seahawk men topped the Monarchs, 161-120, while the women fell, 163-37, on Saturday at the ODU Swimming and Diving Facility.

“We were all very excited to get back in the pool and race,” said UNCW Head Coach Jason Memont. “This fall has been challenging and it was just nice to get back to what we love doing. Overall, we have a lot of work to do, but we showed toughness and team spirit today.”

Sophomore Faith Pilcher opened her season with a pair of sprint wins after taking first in the 100 Free (52.77) and also tying for first in the 50 Free with senior Meghan Lahr, both touching the wall in a time of 24.55 seconds.

Sean Cannon, a sophomore, also earned a pair of wins in the sprints with times of 21.11 in the 50 Free and 45.63 in the 100.

Also adding wins were sophomore Jack Cosgrove (200 Free), junior Will Countie (200 Backstroke), freshman Avery Gambrill (500 Free) and senior Vivian Louviere (100 Butterfly).

UNCW posted a sweep of the day’s relay action winning the women’s 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.16 and later topping the field in the 200 Free Relay after posting a time of 1:37.89. The Seahawk men, meanwhile, clocked in with winning times of 1:32.69 and 1:24.15, respectively.

Senior Adyson Lowe won both the 1 and 3-meter dives with scores of 249.75 and286.00 points, respectively. On the men’s side, freshman Dillon Hall won his collegiate debut in the 1-meter with a score of 271.35 in the 1-meter and sophomore Trent Igoe finished off a UNCW diving sweep by winning the 3-meter board with 240.75 points.

“I’m incredibly proud of the energy and pride the team swam with today. We are ready to get back into the pool and get to work so we can be better next time out.”

The Seahawks host rival East Carolina on Oct. 27 at 1 p.m.
