A balanced effort over the weekend highlighted by depth in multiple events led the UMass men’s swimming and diving team to the overall team title at the Colgate Invitational on Saturday. UMass took first among four teams with a total of 1,284 points in the two-day event.
The Minutemen won six individual events on Saturday including first-through-third in five of those. Anthony Rizzo (400 IM), Panos Androulidakis (200 free), Reece Donahue (3-meter dive), Harry Ortof (1,650 free), Chris DiGiacomo (200 back), and Ben Sloan (200 fly) all won individual titles on Saturday. The Minutemen also placed second and third in the 200 medley relay and second and fourth in the 400 free relay.
UMass started the day taking the top three spots in the 400 IM with DiGiacomo placing second and Heath Maginn taking third behind Rizzo.
UMass returns to action next Friday night (5 p.m.) with a home dual meet against Army in the Joseph R. Rogers pool in Boyden Gymnasium. Admission is free to all.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Saint Francis swimming team earned a win in the seven-team Colgate Fall Classic this weekend, finishing off a first place run with wins in five events on Saturday. The Red Flash finished the invitational with 940 total points, with UMass finishing second with 839.5 points. Colgate followed with 610 points in third, while Cleveland State placed fourth with 453 points.
Saint Francis claimed first place in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, its second relay win of the weekend following Friday’s win in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Freshmen Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph’s) and Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) combined with junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) for a time of 3:36.68 to establish a new meet record.
Junior Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei), junior Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club), junior Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and freshman Erin O’Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) teamed up for a third-place finish in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, with a time of 3:39.54.
The Red Flash also won the 200-yard Medley Relay. Bowman, O’Neill, senior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) and Lafferty combined for a time of 1:49.17, the 10th-best in that event in program history.
Quon, sophomore Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley), Tiberino and Baur earned a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard Medley Relay, with a pace of 1:52.92.
Saint Francis earned the top three finishes in the 100-yard Backstroke. Lafferty claimed first place, with a time of 1:00.03. Baur finished in second, with a time of 1:00.14, while Bowman placed third, with a time of 1:00.33. Quon claimed 10th, with a time of 1:01.78, while Tedjasukmana finished just outside the top 10, with a time of 1:02.12.
The Red Flash earned the top two finishes in the 200-yard Freestyle. Lafferty posted a time of 1:56.32 to claim the win. Quon followed in second place, with a time of 1:56.74. Fellow rookie, Baur, finished fifth in the event, with a pace of 1:59.09.
Quon earned first-place in the 200-yard Backstroke, with a time of 2:09.72. Baur finished fourth in the event, with a pace of 2:12.09, while Tedjasukmana placed seventh, with a time of 2:15.24. SophomoresMarisa Daly (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) and Rory O’Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with times of 2:15.98 and 2:16.74, while freshman Laura Patrick(Lake Charles, La./St. Louis Catholic) placed 13th, with a time of 2:18.94.
In the 100-yard Freestyle, Lafferty claimed a win, with a time of 53.69. Tedjasukmana finished fifth in the race, with a time of 54.79, while Baur placed sixth, with a pace of 54.82. Bowman earned eighth-place, with a time of 55.08.
McLean finished 14th in the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 55.84, while Tiberino placed 15th, with a time of 55.91.
In the 400-yard IM, Quon also finished second, with a pace of 4:35.00, while Karell placed seventh, with a time of 4:43.29. McLean came in ninth, with a time of 4:49.40, while freshman Laura Patrick (Lake Charles, La./St. Louis Catholic) finished just outside the Top 10, with a pace of 4:51.17 to place 11th.
O’Dell took 12th place in the 400-yard IM, with a time of 4:53.42, while freshman Meaghan Saettel(Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) placed 13th, with a time of 4:53.69. Daly finished 15th, with a time of 4:55.42, and freshman Emily Graziano (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) placed 16th, with a time of 4:55.71.
SFU placed two in the Top 15 of the 100-yard Butterfly. Bowman claimed second place, with a time of 58.52. Tiberino joined Bowman in the Top 10, with a pace of 1:00.69 to finish seventh. Tedjasukmana finished 11th, with a time of 1:01.31, while McLean placed 15th, with a pace of 1:02.17.
Three Red Flash earned Top 10 finishes in the 100-yard Breaststroke. O’Neill led the group with a time of 1:07.55 to finish third and claim the eighth-best time in program history. Karell recorded a time of 1:08.74, to place fifth, while Crumm finished ninth, with a time of 1:10.71.
SFU had three more swimmers in the Top 15 of the 100-yard Breaststroke. Patrick tied for 11th, with a time of 1:11.22, while Toth placed 13th, with a pace of 1:11.50. Bowman finished 15th, with a time of 1:11.97.
In the 100-yard IM, three Red Flash finished in the Top 10. Bowman led the group with a time of 1:01.18 to earn a second-place finish. Karell came in fifth, with a time of 1:01.75, while Lafferty finished sixth, with a pace of 1:01.88. McLean finished just outside the Top 10, with a time of 1:02.77, and Tedjasukmana placed 15th, with a time of 1:03.44.
O’Neill led Saint Francis in the 200-yard Breaststroke, placing second with a time of 2:28.57. Quon placed fifth, with a pace of 2:32.34, while freshman Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) finished seventh, with a time of 2:32.80. Patrick also finished in the Top 10 of that event, posting a time of 2:34.22 to place ninth.
Crumm earned 13th in the 200-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 2:38.83, while Daly placed 15th, with a time of 2:41.64.
In the 200-yard Butterfly, Karell had the Red Flash’s top time, recording a time of 2:13.49. O’Dell finished seventh, with a time of 2:16.71, while Saettel placed ninth, with a pace of 2:19.89.
Tiberino finished 11th in the 200-yard Butterfly, with a time of 2:21.92, while junior Kasey Marks (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) placed 13th, with a time of 2:24.80.
Five Red Flash placed in the Top 15 in the 1,650-yard Freestyle. Karell led the way, with a time of 18:22.23, to finish third. Graziano placed seventh, with a time of 18:50.02, while McLean finished ninth, with a time of 18:55.28. Saettel finished 11th, with a pace of 19:02.79, while Marks completed the race in 19:13.58 to place 12th.
The Red Flash travels to Boston College next weekend for the Northeast Catholic Invitational. The invitational begins on Friday, October 14 and ends on Sunday, October 16.
