The next win came in the 200y Freestyle with transfer Meghan Byrne and Freshman Olivia Herbert taking the top two spots. Niamh Hofland and Freshman Bella Hoffman continued the streak taking the top two spots in the next event, the 100y Backstroke. Maggie Donlevy, part of the 200y Medley squad from the opening event, carried success into the second half of the meet, winning the 50y Freestyle and helping her squad set the second pool record of the evening in the 400y Freestyle Relay.

How It Happened
Freshman Julianna Tyler set a Tootell Aquatic Center record in the 200-yard Butterfly to lead an exceptional performance for Rhode Island against Connecticut Saturday. While the Rams fell 166-132, the performance was a significant performance over last year’s meet with the Huskies.

Tyler won the 200 Butterfly in a time of 2:01.41, beating the rest of the field by more than five seconds. Her time beat the previous program record of 2:02.47 set by Caitlin Guccione in February of 2018. It also broke the pool record of 2:03.54 set by Vermont’s Hally Laney in November of 2022.

Tyler’s performance was one of six personal best performances by the Rams.

“I am incredibly proud of this team and their efforts today,” Rhode Island head coach Lilli Deering said. “This sets us up really well for next weekend, our mid-season meet. We know the hard work isn’t finished and we need to prepare for more tough competition next weekend, but the momentum the girls are feeling is good and they are excited about what’s to come. Overall, it was a great day for the team – the energy that they brought to the meet was outstanding and we were ready to compete against a really strong and competitive team. ”
