The Texas Longhorn men have released their schedule for the upcoming 2013-2014 season, headlined by a loaded in-season schedule where Jack Conger, Matt Ellis, Kip Darmody, and company will take on five of last year’s top ten teams in dual meets (Indiana, Michigan, Auburn, Georgia, and Arizona). If college swimming had a “strength of schedule” ranking, Texas’ would surely be #1.
Eddie Reese and company start the season with their yearly inter-squad meet before playing host to North Carolina in mid-October. Texas will then travel to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the defending champion Michigan Wolverines and an Indiana squad returning almost every important piece for a year ago.
After heading to Charlottesville to take on defending ACC Champion Virginia, West Virginia, and Penn State, the men will get a chance to taper down a bit for the annual Texas Invitational (they didn’t host this last year, when the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center hosted AT&T Winter Nationals), which in the recent past has drawn Arizona, USC, and Wisconsin.
The schedule picks back up right after the new year with back-to-back dual meets with two SEC powers, Auburn and Georgia. At the end of the month, Texas travels to Tucson for their final in-season meet of the year against the Arizona Wildcats.
The Longhorns will then play host for their two big meets of the year: the 2014 Big 12 Championships and 2014 NCAA Championships.
Gillian Ryan to Michigan!
Big 12’s?!…don’t you mean three team meet called a “championship”
He means the Texas Inter-Squad Meet in March, lesser known as the Big 12 or Big 8 or whatever it was once upon a time.
Let’s do this thing: over under on Conger in 500 free, 100 back, 200 back at NCAAs.
I lock at 4:09, 44.6 and 1:38.1
I’ll go over (meaning slower than all those times) on them all. Not a good recent track record (Youngquist) at TX for freshmen.New school, way over achieved in HS, freedom, etc. I’m thinking he and Murphy (CAL) will be flat this year. They both have trained like college swimmers for a long time. But they will be very good still and even better after their freshman years.
Not sure if I agree that Conger’s trained like a college swimmer. I’ve heard mixed reviews on his coaching up in DC, and just watching him at Nationals on things like turns and how he performed morning vs evening, I think Eddie Reese is going to do wonders for him. If he’d been swimming at NCSC instead of RMSC/Machine – I might believe he’d trained like he will at Texas.
I do think Murphy has trained at that level at Bolles.
Not sure if I’ll be able to swing a trip to Austin for NCAA’s, but glad to see the ‘Horns coming to Arizona. Definitely going to make the trip down to Tucson for that one.
They play Arizona every year (and Auburn, in recent years). Usually Arizona rests for that meet and kicks their butt. Very interested to see how young talent will develop this year. We are definitely going to see some practices as well.
Here is my customary: Go Horns! Hook’em.
Kids and I will be at Orange and White to see new talent. Can’t wait to see first ever NCAA and hopefully on last day of NCAAs, on my birthday, Horns will give me a title as a birthday present.
They won’t. Psychotic swim parents don’t deserve birthday gifts anyways.
Gosh…settle down. We all get excited to see our favorite teams swim. Real swim fans are the best, and there is nothing wrong with some passion. Just sayin’!
Wahoo, you should not bother replying… You just wasted 60 seconds of your life you cannot get back. Do not argue with dumbdumb on swimswam.
