2015 Canadian Trials: Day Two Finals Preview – Kierra Smith Eyeing Breaststroke Redemption

Kierra Smith will have a chance at redemption in the 100m breaststroke after her disqualification in the 200 last night despite touching the wall first. She was a 1:09.02 in prelims. If Smith wants to make the team, she’ll need to go a 1:07.97 tonight.

Video Interview: Tristan Cote Breaks Down Last Night’s 400m IM CIS Victory

Last year’s 1500m freestyle champion Tristan Cote took the win in the men’s 400m IM on night one for Calgary in 4:22.52. Second was defending CIS Champion Luke Reilly in 4:24.77.

Canada West Championships: UBC Men And Women Repeat As Champions

The UBC men cleaned up the men’s 100m freestyle final with a 1-2-3 podium sweep led by up-and-coming sprinter Yuri Kisil. Kisil rocketed to a 48.73 to win the event followed by Stefan Milosevic who touched in at 49.58. Luke Peddie came in fast as well throwing down a 49.94. The three leaders were the only ones under the 50 second barrier, pointing the UBC 4x100m freestyle relay in a very good direction.

UBC Thunderbirds Hold Off Calgary Dinos To Secure Home Pool Win

The Thunderbirds beat the UofC Dinos by 516 points, putting forth a great effort and producing a grand total of 1674 points to take the win. Calgary finished second with 1158 points over the Lower Mainland High School All-Stars – a group of stellar high school swimmers – who finished third with 1124 points.

Jeremy Bagshaw And Alec Page Take Home Wins On Night Two Of Canadian Nationals

Alec Page, who recently was removed from the Canadian Commonwealth Games and Pan Pac roster due to a doping violation, was able to shed some light in what must’ve been a tough turn of events for him with a win in the 400m IM here in Saskatoon. Page was a 4:20.11 here, slower than he was at trials.

Day Two Prelims Of Mel Zajac International: Missy Franklin Takes Top Seed In 200 Back

Missy Franklin stole the show in the 200m backstroke throwing down a 2:11.75 to take the top seed over teammate Elizabeth Pelton. Pelton touched in at 2:13.11 to take the second seed. The two Cal teammates really separated themselves from the rest of the field; third seed Melanie Klaren who’s also a Cal swimmer was over two seconds behind Pelton in 2:15.22
