The Swiss Swimming Federation announced on Tuesday that it would be sending four of its own athletes to the World Championships in Barcelona, plus two from a smaller neighbor.
The four Swiss qualifiers are:
Swann Oberson (Open Water)
Dominik Meichtry (200 F)
Luke Räuftlin (100 & 200m Backstroke)
Martin Schweizer (50m Breaststroke)
The list includes the country’s top swimmer, American-trained Dominik Meichtry, who will swim the 200 free: an event in which he semi-finaled at last summer’s Olympic Games.
The Swiss will be accompanied by a pair of swimmers from Lichtenstein in a partnership with their tiny neighbors to the east. Lichtenstein will send 20-year old Julia Hassler (8:35 in the 800) and 2o-year old middle-distance swimmer Christoph Meier (3:55 in the 400 free). Hassler finished 17th in the 800 at last year’s Olympics.
