SwimSwam Video: The Northern Michigan Wildcats “Wetland” Practice

Kelly McCommons is a former swimmer and current swim coach who is a broadcast journalism student at Northern Michigan, and is a producer working for WNMU TV. As you can see above, Kelly is very talented and has done a great job of capturing the essence of this Northern Michigan University swim practice and boiling it down into a solid, very watchable three minutes of video. We need more people like this in swimming: people who have talent both in the pool and out of the pool, and will one day more-than-likely have a huge platform from which to share the sport we all love.

An early morning wetland workout with Northern Michigan University Wildcats!

The Spring training season is wrapping up and I was able to get a look at what they were up to on Wednesday morning. The wildcats placed third this year at the GLIAC Championship and placed 20th at NCAA’s DII.

Head Coach Heidi Voigt is entering her fourth season as head coach of the Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team. She was recently named GLIAC Coach of the year, along with She graduated from the University of Washington in 1996, with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, where she was a team captain.
