The Swim Coaches Base Podcast, powered by RITTER, is quickly approaching 300 episodes. But many of the episodes from years’ past aren’t available prior to ones released this past year.
Each day, for the remaining days of 2019, RITTER Sports Performance will be releasing episodes from the vault. These will only be available until the end of the year and will be found exclusively on Apple Podcasts.
There are many great coaches that you may not have even realized were previously on the Swim Coaches Base Podcast.
Here’s are just some of the guests that are now available:
- Christen Shefchunas started coaching swimming after her career at the University of Tennessee, where she walked on to the Lady Vol SwimTeam as a freshman and walked out four years later as a 4x All-American and captain her junior and senior seasons. She was an assistant coach at Michigan State University for 2 years before going to SMU as the women’s assistant for 4 years, where she worked with Olympians, World Champions and NCAA Champions. In 2006, Christen became the Head Coach at the University of Miami, where she spent 7 seasons. After falling in love with the confidence coaching she was exposed to in her sixth season, she decided to leave her coaching career to start speaking full-time as well as begin Confidence Coaching for Olympic-level and Professional athletes. In 2015 though, she returned to the swimming world for a year, as she helped Team Elite, a group of Olympians and National team members prepare for the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio. Coach Christen has now returned to Speaking, and is a Confidence Coach to many Olympians, professional athletes, college athletes and those passionate about reaching their full potential.
- Kate Lundsten joined the Aquajets Swim Team as Head Coach in 2004. In her current role, she is also the Board Chair of Newjets, Inc., the non-profit parent organization of the Aquajets. Kate swam competitively for 10 years and has been a USA Swimming coach for 20 years. On multiple occasions, Kate has been selected as an assistant coach for the USA National and USA Junior National Teams. She was the head coach for the Eden Prairie High School Girls’ Swim Team for 10 years – winning 4 state titles! Kate is widely recognized as a superior stroke technician and encourages and promotes strong technic in practice. Kate swam for Minnetonka High School where she was a team captain and winner of multiple state championships. She was also a Junior National qualifier.
- Brendan Hansen now works with USA Swimming. Previously he was the head coach for the Austin Swim Club. Hansen also serves as the AASA General Manger, is a 24 time All American and 3 time Olympic swimmer who specializes in the breaststroke. He is a six-time (three gold, one silver, two bronze) Olympic medalist and is also a former world record holder in both the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke (long course). He has won a total of twenty-five medals in major international competition, eighteen gold, four silver, and three bronze, spanning the Olympics, the World Championships, and the Pan Pacific Championships. Brendan is a current member of the Board of Directors of the USA Swimming Foundation.
- Crystal Keelan has been the head age group coach at PCAC since Fall of 2012. Crystal Keelan was a competitive swimmer from age 7 through graduation from her college. She began her coaching career as an assistant summer coach for the Northampton Swim Team from the year of 2000 to 2004. After leaving Northampton Swim Team, Coach Keelan became an assistant under Dawn Pachence from 2004 to 2007. In 2011, Crystal took over the Lower Moreland Lightning team as the head coach for the summer months when Coach Pachence left for her maternity leave. Outside of her summer month coaching, she also spent several years as the head coach for Council Rock prior to accepting her current role at Penn Charter.
- Dana Kirk is the head coach and founder of PASA-DKS which is an affiliate of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics. She founded the swimming club in 2008 and since this time, the team has grown to over 200 swimmers ranging from 4 to 18 years old. Prior to beginning her own swim club, Dana coached with the Greenmeadow’s summer league, leading them to their first championship in over 25 years. Over the past 7 years, she has produced many top level age group swimmers in Pacific Swimming as well as Junior National Finalists, CCS Champions, Western Zone and North American Challenge Cup qualifiers.
- Chris Plumb has been the head coach and CEO of Carmel Swim Club since July 2006. Chris first began coaching in 2003, however, it wasn’t until his takeover as head coach when the swim club drastically changed. In 2012, the Carmel swim club took 17 athletes to the Olympic Trials in 2012 as well as 9 athletes in 2016. Under Chris’ care, the swim club has also had multiple USA Swimming National Junior Team Members and two National Team Members. In the past two years, the club managed to win the 2016 Junior National Championships, the 2014 Speedo Junior National Team title and multiple records have been broken. Chris has also taken time to coach at the Carmel High School as well as a few swim camps such as the USA Swimming’s National Select Camp, Eastern Zone Select Camp and the Indiana Central Zone Team.
- Kathy McKee is the current Associate Head Coach for SwimMAC Carolina. Prior to her return to SwimMAC, Kathy spent 5 years with the Chapel Hill swim team. Kathy also started her career in swimming with Chapel Hill. After her initial experience with Chapel Hill, Kathy spent 17 years as the Head Age Group Coach at Dynamo Swim Club in Atlanta. Here, she helped one swimmer break two American records and two swimmers to the Olympic swim team in 1996. Coach McKee has earned the coach of the year four times and has also received special awards from her peer coaches. Kathy has also served on multiple committees with USA swimming, North Carolina swimming and Georgia swimming. She has had the privilege of serving on the American Swimming Coaches Association Board of Directors for six years and has the opportunity to speak at the ASCA World Clinic on numerous occasions.
- Tom Rushton is the current mid-distance coach at Energy Standard and has been at his post since May 2017. In past years, Tom spent 4 years as a club coach in western Canada, 2 years at the University of British Columbia as an age-group coach and 4.5 years in Montreal as an NTC coach. Under his care, 100% of his athletes from the coaching clubs became graduating athletes and went on to swim in universities. Coach Rushton also managed to coach a few of his athletes to the 2016 summer Olympics. A large variety of Tom’s athletes managed to be selected to represent Canada at championship swim meets. In 2016, Tom also coached a female athlete who successfully broke the Canadian record in the 400m Free (SCM) at only 17 years of age.
