Dear Swimmers, Volunteers & Donors Thank you all for making our 3rd annual swim the best year yet!  From our swimmers who showed up early and stayed late, to the volunteers who help set up every tent, table and banner and transform the empty lawn, into an amazing backdrop for our event, to our Olympians who helped inspire our swimmers at the Olympian Clinic, we could not have done it without your hard work and dedication!Open Water Photos

Highlights from the weekend

VIP Luncheon – June 7
The SAA weekend kicked off with our VIP luncheon on the 10th floor of the Sammons Cancer Center.  Over 80 guests enjoyed an afternoon highlighted by a speech by cancer survivor and Mrs. Texas International, Michelle Berndt, sharing her journey with breast cancer and her experience being treated at Baylor.  The big news of the day came as Dr. Alan Miller, Director of the Cancer Center, announced the ICTC would officially be named the SWIM ACROSS AMERICA Innovative Clinical Trials Center, thanking all of us for our hard work in raising funds for the center.

Olympian Clinic – June 7
Friday evening, over 80 youth swimmers from around the metroplex gathered at the Town North YMCA and spent 3 hours learning tips of technique and motivation from the best!  Olympians Josh Davis, Neil Walker, Jill Sterkel, Ryan Berube, Kirk Stackle and Daniel Watters put on a great clinic for these kids who strive to be the best.  After the swimming, kids enjoyed pizza, photos, and autographs!  All proceeds from this clinic helped us reach our fundraising goal.

Open Water Swim – June 8
WOW!  Over $320,000 was raised in our 3rd annual swim.  Another perfect and very calm day at Lake Ray Hubbard made this years’ swim one of the fastest on record.  225 swimmers took the plunge into the refreshing lake to swim ½, 1 or 2 miles.  75 volunteers along with kayakers, boaters, and angel swimmers supported their efforts to "Make Waves to Fight Cancer."  This year we had 20 teams participate.  The top 2 teams each raised over $50,000!

Pool Swim – June 9
The first annual Dallas Pool Swim was a success!  Over 60 people, ranging from ages 5 to 75, weathered a morning storm to "Make Waves to Fight Cancer."  Town North YMCA hosted this event and did an amazing job.  Relay teams had fun swimming together to reach ½ or 1 mile.  In addition, many individuals took on the challenge to swim the distance solo.  The event raised over $15,000 in the first year.  We look forward to growing this more next year!
