The meet that kicked off with a world record by Katie Ledecky in the women’s 1500m freestyle concludes Sunday with more racing scheduled for the Olympic Gold Medalist and fellow Olympian, Andrew Gemmell.
The final day of The Woodlands Swim Team (TWST) Senior Invitational Meet starts with preliminaries at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. at the CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, TX. Sunday is the fourth and final day of the meet for more than 400 swimmers from across the country, including California, Colorado, Louisiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.
“This has been a special meet for us,” said Jack Legendre, TWST President. “Obviously the world-record performance by Katie has brought us a lot of attention for a meet this size, but it has also enriched the meet experience for all the athletes and TWST. We are grateful for that.”
Ledecky is scheduled to swim the 800m freestyle at 5 p.m. on Sunday. There is a good chance the 17-year-old swimmer could put in another strong performance, considering her world record and her world-leading 400m freestyle performance at the meet. Ledecky, who is a distant specialist, is also scheduled to race the 100m freestyle preliminaries at 10:45 a.m.
In addition to Ledecky, the meet features former Olympian, Andrew Gemmell, who competed for the U.S. in the 2012 Olympics in the 1500m freestyle. Gemmell, 23, has put in strong and winning performances in the 400m and 800m freestyle events at this meet. He is scheduled to swim the 200m back and 1500m freestyle on Sunday.
TWST is a year-round competitive swim team with a thirty-year history of success at all levels of competition. The team’s roster boasts more than 10 coaches and 330 swimmers. TWST is the current holder of the Texas Age Group Swimming Championships (TAGS) titles for long course (July 2013) and short course (March 2014).

We need to all chip in and pay for a cameraman to film all of Katie’s races from now on because you never know when she’s going to bust out a World Record!
I believe swimswam headquarter is based in Austin, Texas.
Perhaps they could send someone of the team in Houston. 🙂
If Katie isn’t too tired there’s a big chance of world record!
Great ideas. btw, that’s a very big if, after such a fast 1500, 400 free, 400 IM, 200 frees, plus 100 free (and 200 IM?). Though I’m learning not to doubt this young lady. I didn’t think she could break the 800 record after the WR/textile WR in the 1500/400 in Barcelona, and she proved me wrong.
Yes. I don’t believe she will break it. Any time under 8.20 after all the races she has swum this week would be great.
But we never know with the legends! 🙂
I guess she wasn’t tired!! She is unbelievable. And I think the whole USA team should go up to altitude before Pan Pacs!
We never know with the legends!
She did it!
