NEWARK, N.J. – The Stony Brook swimming and diving team picked up 12 first-place finishes en route to a 186-109 win over Rider on Saturday afternoon to conclude its dual meet season. The 12 first-place finishes marked a new season-high in one dual meet for the squad.
The Seawolves started the meet off with a bang, securing a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The relay team was composed of senior Reagan MacDonald, graduate Jessica Salmon, and freshmen Michelle Vu and Alanna DePinto.
Sophomore Emma Hawkins kept the momentum rolling with a win in the 1000 freestyle with a final time of 11:03.33. Junior Mary Kate Conway and MacDonald followed behind with wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively.
Salmon touched the wall at 1:08.86 to earn the win in the 100 breast and senior Maddy Enda clocked in at 2:10.91 for a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly. Junior Sara DiStefano captured a victory in the 1 meter dive and MacDonald kept the momentum with a victory in the 200 yard back. After Salmon collected a win in the 200 yard back and freshman Aili Talcott touched the wall first in 500 freestyle, Vu and DiStefano closed out the day with first-place finishes in the 100 yard and 3-meter dive.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Seawolves moved to 2-0 all-time against Rider, with their first victory coming last season, 166-103, in Newark, N.J. on January 22, 2022.
- Conway secured a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a final time of 1:58.09.
- MacDonald clocked in at 59.50 for a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke for her first of two victories on the day. Her second victory came in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall at 2:09.56.
- Salmon also captured two individual victories this afternoon. The first victory of the afternoon for the Rexford native came in the 100 breast at 1:08.86. Her second win came in the 200 breast, finishing the race at 2:30.41.
- Enda earned the win in the 200 butterfly with a final time of 2:10.91.
- Talcott recorded a final mark of 5:23.18 in the 500 freestyle for the win.
- Vu came out with the win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.62.
- DiStefano was the leader on the boards for Stony Brook, as the junior finished with a score of 246.85 in the 3-meter dive and 226.70 in the 1-meter dive to secure the victories.

“Today’s meet was a great end to our dual meet season. The energy was high with lots of great dives and swims. Now we will be switching gears going into the home stretch of the season with our championship at the end of February”, said head coach Mark Anderson.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team fell 186-109 in a dual meet against Stony Brook Saturday afternoon. The Broncs fall to 0-7 on the season, while the Seawolves improve to 4-2 on the year.
The Broncs won four events on the day.
Connar Melcher (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) got the Broncs first victory of the meet, winning the 50-free in 24.89 ahead of Maddie McSorley’s (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) 25.64.
Giavanna Lupi (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) then won the 100-free with a time of 54.76.
Logan Wilson (Muskego, WI/Waukesha South) had the third individual victory of the day for the Broncs, winning the 200-IM in 2:13.19.
The Broncs closed out the day with a win in the 200-free relay. Melcher, Lupi, Kylie McMahon (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s), and McSorley combined to touch the wall at 1:38.92.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team defeated NJIT 188-103 Saturday afternoon. The Broncs improved to 4-3 on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 2-6.
The Bronc men won 12 events in the meet.
Rider’s first win of the day came with a one-two finish in the 1,000-free by Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) and Kyle Iorizzo (Norwood, NJ/Old Tappan Regional). The pair stopped the clock at 9:39.00 and 9:43.92.
Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) then led a Rider sweep in the 200-free. He touched the wall at 1:41.46 ahead of David McSorley’s () 1:42.87 and Christian Overton’s 1:43.04. Racevicius also won the 100-free with a time of 46.11.
Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy) and David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) swam one-two in the 100-back, touching the wall at 50.40 and 50.56. Overton and Lane swam one-two in the 200-back with times of 1:50.70 and 1:50.84, respectively.
David Cooper (Spring, TX/Klein Oak) and Alex Boeckx (Folsom, PA/Ridley) posted times of 56.68 and 56.79 for a one-two finish in the 100-breast. Cooper also won the 200-breast with a winning time of 2:06.08.
Bobby Irwin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) won the 200-fly in 1:50.78. Lane, Jack Ruggieri (Bellmawr, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), and Irwin swam 49.88, 50.49, and 50.55 to sweep the 100-fly.
Boeckx, Racevicius, Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School), and Irwin closed out the day with a swim of 1:24.11 to win the 200-free relay.
In the diving well, Sean Binning (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) swept the two events, winning the 3-meter with a score of 287.55 and a 324.65 on the 1-meter, followed by Marcas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross), who scored 262.40 on the 3-meter and 244.70 on the 1-meter for second in both.

NEWARK, N.J. — NJIT Men’s Swimming and Diving celebrated Senior Day before its penultimate home meet of the season against in-state rival Rider but had the festivities disrupted by the Broncs in a 188-103 loss Saturday afternoon at the Wellness and Events Center Natatorium.
