Spectrum Aquatics Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming: 3/1/2025

Nida Omid, 14, ASV Wien (Austria): Omid set three best times at a junior qualifying meet in Vienna last weekend, setting a new Austrian Record in one of them. The 14-year-old clocked 2:17.12 in the girls’ 200 IM (SCM), setting a new National Age Record for 14-year-old girls. She also set bests in the 100 fly (1:02.75) and 400 IM (4:53.05), and also went 2:04.22 in the 200 free, having set the National Age Record in late November in 2:02.11.

Eli Kim, 11, Crow Canyon Sharks (PC): Kim set four best times at the Pacific Swimming SC Senior Champs in San Jose, highlighted by what he did in the 500 free. Kim clocked 5:05.70 to rank 3rd this season among 11-year-old boys, improving on his previous best of 5:12.73 set in January. He also clocked 1:55.75 in the 200 free and 2:12.10 in the 200 IM to rank 7th this season among 11-year-olds, while his 1:09.87 in the 100 breast ranks 15th.

Heba Fouitah, 14, Aiken-Augusta Swim League (GA): Fouitah set new bests in three events at the Georgia Age Group State Championships in Savannah, picking up wins in the 200 back, 100 fly, 100 IM, 200 IM and 400 IM. Fouitah set a season-best of 1:58.72 in the 200 back to rank 8th in the girls’ 13-14 age group this season, while she moved to 12th in the 100 fly (55.16), 3rd in the 100 IM (56.50) and 19th in the 400 IM (4:23.80) with new best times. She won the 200 IM in 2:04.39, having set a PB of 2:02.50 at Winter Juniors – East which ranks 10th this season.

Charlie Cancelmo, 15, Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club (PN): Cancelmo swept his individual events and set a new lifetime best in the 100 fly at the Wisconsin (WIAA) Boys 3A State Championships last weekend. The 15-year-old ripped a new PB of 47.94 in the final of the 100 fly, ranking him 3rd in the country this season among 15-year-old boys. He came into the meet with a best of 48.20, set in December, and had brought that down to 48.12 in the prelims. He also won the 100 back title in 49.89, having set a PB of 49.17 in December.

Ewan Dalrymple, 16, Columbia Swimming (SC): Dalrymple set a number of best times at the South Carolina Senior SC Championship two weeks ago, highlighted by a blistering swim in the 200 fly. Dalrymple set a best time of 1:46.72 in the prelims and then got down to 1:46.05 in the final, ranking him 7th this season in the boys’ 15-16 age group and 43rd all-time. He also set best times in the 1000 free (9:14.57), 1650 free (15:34.52), 100 back (52.25), 200 back (1:49.55), 100 fly (49.58) and 400 IM (3:57.89).

Hayden Gibson, 17, Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawks (AR): Gibson had a standout showing at the RMP Law Presidential Invite two weeks ago in Springdale, Ark., setting six best times and nearly lowering her PB in arguably her best event, the 200 back. Gibson, who clocked 1:54.84 in the 200 back at Winter Juniors – East in December, went 1:54.88 at the meet to rank 4th this season among 17-year-old girls (her swim from Winter Juniors ranks 7th this season among 16-year-olds). An Arkansas commit, Gibson also clocked 4:15.39 in the 400 IM to rank 10th this season among 17-year-olds, and also hit bests in the 200 free (1:51.81), 500 free (4:57.17), 1000 free (10:20.14), 50 back (25.39) and 100 fly (54.81).
