SMU’s Bryce Klein Set For USA Diving Winter Nationals

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU men’s diving standout Bryce Klein travels to Indianapolis Dec. 15-20 to compete at the USA Diving Winter National Championships held at the IUPUI Natatorium. Klein will use the event as a tune-up for the U.S. Olympic trials, which he has previously qualified for, set to take place at the same facility June 18-26, 2016.

The redshirt-sophomore will compete in 3-meter and synchronized 3-meter events. Klein will team up with Bradley Christensen for the synchro event.

Klein is having an impressive season for the Mustangs, leading the diving cohort posting NCAA Zone qualifying scores in both the 1- and 3-meter in his first event of the season at TCU. Most recently, Klein broke the SMU 3-meter record with a 424.60 at the Art Adamson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.

The Southlake, Texas, native has scored wins in five of six events, including a season sweep thus far, in the 1-meter. The only blemish to his perfect resume came in the form of a runner-up honor in 3-meter at LSU. For his efforts, he has been named the American Athletic Conference Diver of the Week three times this season, including back-to-back honors Nov. 3 and 10.

In his first collegiate season (2013-14), Klein earned All-AAC honors in both 1- and 3-meter events and placed fifth in each at the NCAA Zone D Championship. At the U.S. Olympic Trials, Klein will compete in 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized events.

On the International stage, Klein and Christensen finished sixth at both the FINA World Series in London and the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea.

The championships also will be used to select the U.S. roster for February’s FINA World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, which will be the final opportunity for countries to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Results will be available on divemeets.com as well as www.USADiving.org.
