SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of dual wins on the road on Saturday. The Roadrunners traveled to face the Cal Poly Mustangs and both CSUB teams came away with convincing wins as the Bakersfield men wrapped up their dual season with a winning record (3-2).

Men

  • The `Runner men defeated the Mustangs, 171-125, on Saturday.
  • The men’s 200 medley relay of Antonio Milin, Carmelich, Yigit Saglam, and Folsom started the meet strong with a 2.4-second win with a time of 1:33.53.
  • The 400 free team of Sivec, Saglam, Timothy Engel, and Schneider closed the meet with a three-second victory (3:07.55).
  • Sivec posted victories in the 200 fly (1:46.43), 100 free (45.29), and 500 free (4:32.31) on Saturday. Sivec is now undefeated in his last eight individual races.
  • Saglam won the 100 back again, posting a time of 51.37.
  • Carmelich took a win 200 free (1:43.86), edging his Cal Poly counterpart by .04 seconds.
  • Schneider earned his second-straight win in the 1000 free (9:43.51). He also finished second in the 500 free (4:38.74) with a personal best time.
  • Folsom won the 200 IM (1:54.78) while also placing second in the 1000 free (9:50.56) and 200 back (1:55.97).
  • Robert Vlad placed second on both diving boards while Anderson Laing finished third on both.

Women

  • Bakersfield’s women downed Cal Poly, 167-128, on the Central Coast.
  • The women’s 400 free relay team of Popham, Lorena Jerebic, Horton, and Hannah Marsh posted a nearly five-second victory to close out the meet (3:37.67).
  • Popham picked up another triple, winning the 200 free (1:53.43), 100 free (52.76), and 500 free (5:05.21). Popham is now tied with Michaela Paige (2012-16) for third in CSUB’s Division I career individual wins list.
  • Holly DiSimone (2nd, 53.78) and Jerebic (3rd, 55.11) helped make it a 1-2-3 sweep for the `Runners in the 100 free.
  • Chelaine Van der Westhuizen won the 100 breast (1:04.83) and 200 breast (2:19.79) before placing second in the 200 IM (1:11.05).
  • Jerebic also earned a win in the 200 fly (2:07.63).
  • Horton won the 50 free with a time of 24.73 seconds.
  • Marsh picked up a win in the 1000 free (10:33.18) with her best dual meet time in the event while Kylie Ney came in a close second (10:34.62). Marsh also placed second in the 500 free (5:13.08) while Ney made it a 1-2-3 CSUB finish (5:14.21).
  • Brown placed second on both diving boards while Madi Gray finished fourth on both in her return form injury.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly swimming & diving secured 10 individual victories during Saturday’s dual with MPSF rival CSU Bakersfield at the Anderson Aquatic Center.

The Mustangs swept the diving events as senior Jacqueline Samaniego captured first in the women’s 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Senior Max Powell emerged victorious in the men’s 1-meter dive (309.30), while freshman Lyndon Kov earned first in the men’s 3-meter dive (281.90) and second in the 1-meter.

In the pool, seniors Erin KimSamantha Rankin and Ryan Iannaccone, junior Kelly McDermott and freshmen Kiersten Weiler (pictured above) and Alex Seybold all secured individual wins.

Kim and Weiler, along with seniors Sophie Jackson and Amy Harter, helped the Cal Poly women bring home first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.82).

The Cal Poly men’s and women’s teams both fell to the Roadrunners.

Weiler earned individual glory in the 100 backstroke (58.07) and took third in the 200 back, while Kim placed first in the 100 butterfly (57.99). Rankin’s victory came in the 200 individual medley (2:10.40) and she finished third in the 100 breaststroke.

McDermott led the way in the 200 back (2:07.45) and grabbed third in the 200 freestyle.

Iannaccone paced the field in the men’s 50 free (21.46) and secured second in the 100 free. Seybold, who finished third in the men’s individual standings at the UNLV Invitational on Dec. 17-19, brought home a title in the 200 back (1:55.12) and a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 breast and 200 IM.

In his first collegiate meet, Lucas Meneghetti, a freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil, placed second in the 200 free, while freshman Andrew Sullivan took third in the event.

Senior Brian Wong collected runner-up finishes in the 100 fly and 200 fly, while junior Ryan Trichler captured second in the 200 IM and 200 breast, and third in the 200 fly.

Freshman Drew Huston placed second in the 100 back, sophomore Evan O’Connell was third in the 50 free and 200 back and junior Joshua Billotte took third in the 1000 free.

Senior Kaia Anderson grabbed a pair of third-place finishes in the women’s 200 breast and 1000 free, while Harter had an impressive swim in the 50 free to take second.

Junior Alexa Porter (200 fly) and sophomore Sarah Jacobson (100 back) each earned a third-place finish in the dual.

The Mustangs hit the road next week to compete in the Bruin Diving Invitational on Jan. 13-15 and for duals against Pacific on Saturday, Jan. 14, and UC Davis (women only) on Sunday, Jan. 15.
