CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Saluki Swimming & Diving program went on the road and took down in-state rival Eastern Illinois yesterday. The Saluki men beat the Panthers with a final score of 181-21. The women’s team captured a 155.5-29.5 victory of their own.

“The team brought great energy to this afternoon’s meet. Overall our times were solid and it sets us up for a great opportunity tomorrow to race a top-25 team,” said Head Coach Geoff Hanson.

The Saluki women opened the meet with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of Lucia RomeroMima ZaborskaCelia Pulido, and Jasmine Rau combined for a time of 1:46.21. Celia Pulido also picked up an individual victory in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.74.

Other Saluki women that picked up wins were, Apryl Paquette finishing first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.51. Karen Rodriguez picked up wins in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly, with times of 2:06.28 and 57.64. In the 100 Freestyle Elli Oploh swam a 54.31 to claim first place. Fernanda Sánchez tallied a 5:08.19 to win the 500 Freestyle. Olivia Herron won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:04.84.

The women closed out the day with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of Nour EleishCelia PulidoJasmine Rau, and Lucia Romero swam a time of 1:38.34.

On the men’s side, the team of Ruard van Renen, Tiago Faleiros, Nicolas Lanuza, and Alex Santiago won the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:32.16. van Renen also picked up a win in the 100 Butterfly, tallying a time of 50.64. Alex Cimera claimed two victories in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle, with times of 1:42.89 and a 45.70. In the 1000 Freestyle, Ian Marshall swam a 9:57.50 to finish first. Selim Hassan won the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.76.

Other Saluki men to pick up wins were Alex Schlueter, swimming a 52.44 in the 100 Backstroke. Brandon Michna tallied a 57.26 to win the 100 Breaststroke. In the 500 Freestyle Adam Cernek was victorious with a time of 4:41.30. Donat Csuvarszki won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 20.74. Csuvarszki was also a part of the winning 200 Freestyle Relay team that consisted of Alex SantiagoRuard van Renen, and Will Chavez. They recorded a time of 1:23.18

“The progression of this group since we started together in August has been fun to be part of, and this afternoon was another step toward our team goals,” said Coach Hanson.

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men and women’s swimming (3-5) ends their home schedule with a loss against Missouri Valley opponent Southern Illinois. EIU will continue their season this weekend with two meets at Southern Indiana and Butler.

Camryn Lewis was the lone Panther to capture a first place finish during senior day on Thursday when she won the 50 free with a time of 24.57. Lewis was also part of the 200 yard medley team with Olivia VieleCorinne Staneart, and Autumn Grinter that earned a third place (1:51.81).

Eastern’s men’s 200 yard medley team also earned a third place finish after the team of Andrew HermanCanyon BainSebastian Rosales and Dismas Dillon completed the event with a time of 1:37.46.

Kennedy Darensbourg received a third place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.03. She later would earn a third place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.97.

Henry Belik got the Panthers on the board with a third place finish for the men’s team in the 1000 freestyle with a final time of 10:46.73. Spencer Wilson also added two fourth place finishes in the 200 free (1:47.31) and the 500 free (4:59.48).

Grinter managed to tied for a third place finish in the 50 freestyle after her final time of 25.07. Connor Colston also earned a fourth place in the 50 free (22.17).

In the men’s 100 butterfly, Matt Triaszin earned a third place with a time of 53.30.

The Panther’s teams in both 200 yard freestyle relay earned third place finishes to close out the meet. The men’s team of Dillon, Colston, Jacob Wienantz and Oliver Ehmann finished with a time of 1:27.55. The women’s team of Grinter, Lewis, Izzy Glasgow and Bella Earll also finished with a time of 1:41.02.

EIU will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28 at noon when they travel to Summit League opponent Southern Indiana.
