Last night in Rio we saw the men throw down in the 100m freestyle sprint, but now it’s the women’s turn to set the Olympic Aquatics Stadium pool on fire.
Among the 8 finalists racing each other for guts and glory (and gold!) tonight are two sisters, Cate and Bronte Campbell, affectionately known around the swimming community simply as ‘C1’ and ‘C2’. Cate, the elder sister, enters tonight’s final as the top seed, having clocked a new Olympic Record in last night’s semi-finals of 52.71.
C1 is carrying a ton of momentum into the final also due to the recent World Record time she set, somewhat surprisingly, just weeks before tonight’s race. While at the Brisbane Grand Prix meet, her last competition before the Olympic Games, Cate scored a blazing time of 52.06 to register as the world’s fastest female ever to swim a 100m freestyle.
But, sister Bronte won’t give up easily, as the double World Champion will also be ready to fight for the podium, bringing a solid 53.29 time from semi-finals into the mix.
Both women are coached by Simon Cusack at Commercial Swimming Club and, in the video, the sisters’ long-time mentor explains his approach with having them both under his tutelage. Listen and get insight into how each of the Campbells may be approaching their race tonight, then sit back and watch the flames flare up tonight in Rio.
Think Im gonna pass on watching since they are loooooosers
