Women’s Recap

South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving team took home a convincing victory over Monmouth by a score of 172-91 on Saturday at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. Overall, the Pirates were able to capture first in 14 of 16 events.

In the first event of the afternoon, the Pirates went 1-2-3 in the 400 Medley Relay with the team of Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.)Lauren SchofieldSierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) and Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) leading the way with a time of 3:57.74.

Continuing the strong start was the duo of Amanda Zajdzinski and Madeleine Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) in the 1000 Free. Zajdzinski paced the pool with a time of 10:25.49 for a first-place finish while Bachand took second with a time of 10:49.11.

In the 200 Free, Allie Waggoner took first while Heidi Dickson (Greenwich, N.J.) took second in times of 1:57.35 and 1:58.02, respectively. The Pirates had a dominant showing in the 100 Breaststroke, taking each of the top four spots on the leaderboard. Lea Moeller took first in the event as Nicole Bastian, Schofield and Meredith Mutter (Pottstown, Penn.) followed in order.

The Pirates would go 1-2 in the 200 Fly with Cripps leading the way in a time of 2:06.81 and Claire O’Neill (Mount Joy, Pa.) sliding in behind her in a time of 2:07.42. For the second time in three events, the Pirates filled the top four spots on the leaderboard, this time in the 50 Free. Heim took first in a time of 24.35 while Genevieve Ross (Spotsylvania, Va.)Taylor Patnode (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Catherine Horner (Lancaster, Penn.) followed in suit.

On the diving board, the Pirates had a strong day with Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) taking first in the 1M Dive with a score of 192.90 and first in the 3M Dive with a score of 205.95. On the flip side, Nicolette Pawar (Lawrenceville, N.J.) took second in the 1M Dive with a score of 167.40 and second in the 3M Dive with a score of 159.97.

The trio of Heim, Leiya Istambouli (Danbury, Conn.) and Moeller would take the top-three spots in the 100 Free. Heim paced the pool in a time of 52.61 while Istambouli finished in 53.42 and Moeller in 54.16. In the 200 Back, Horner and Field would finish first and second in times of 2:08.95 and 2:10.17, respectively.

In the 200 Breaststroke, Nicole Bastian paced the pool in a time of 2:26.47. Schofield and Mutter would finish second and third in times of 2:26.82 and 2:32.48.  Next, in the 500 Free, Zajdzinski and Bachand would go one-two again.

The Pirates would close the day strong, taking spots one through four in the 400 IM with Allie Waggoner leading the way in a time of 4:33.77. Dickson, O’Neill, and Savannah Kennedy (Fishers, Ind.) followed Waggoner. The team of Istambouli, Heim, Moeller and Cornelia Jerresand (Taeby, Sweden) finished the day with a first-place finish in th 200 Free Relay, doing so in a time of 1:37.29. The Hall will be back in action next Saturday, as they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to take on LaSalle. Start time for that meet will be 1 p.m. and serve as the Pirates’ final fall meet of the season before heading to Virginia for the Patriot Invitational from Nov. 18-Nov. 20.

Men’s Recap

South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men’s swimming team defeated Monmouth on Saturday afternoon by a score of 155-115 inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. Overall, the Pirates were able to take first in 15 of 16 events in the victory.

The Pirates started off hot taking first in the 400 Medley Relay as the team of Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.)Gennarino Conzemius (Bethel Park, Pa.)Justin Oosterwyk (Pequannock, N.J.) and Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) combined to touch the wall in a time of 3:26.78.

Freshman Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) continued his strong start to his collegiate career with another strong performance against Monmouth. Vizzard paced the pool in the 1000 Free doing so in a time of 9:38.61, controlling the race from the start.

The Pirates took first in a third consecutive event, this time behind LaClair. LaClair took first in the 200 Free touching the wall in a time of 1:43.46. Gideon Langenbusch (Oberhausen, Germany) also had a strong showing taking third place with a time of 1:43.69.

Continuing the Pirates’ early success was Pantano, who picked up his second first place finish of the morning leading the pack in the 100 Back. Pantano paced the pool with a time of 52.10. In the 100 Breaststroke, Conzemius and Justen Lopez (Levittown, N.Y.) went 1-2 in the 100 Breaststroke with times of 57.07 and 57.45, respectively. Lopez and Conzemius would flip places in the 200 Breaststroke with Lopez winning in a time of 2:08.96 and Conzemius in second in a time of 2:10.86.

Oosterwyk continued his successful day in the pool picking up a first-place finish, his second of the meet, in the 200 Fly. Oosterwyk took first with a time of 1:53.61. The junior would also take first in the 100 Fly, doing so in a time of 50.39. Closing out his strong day in the pool, Oosterwyk placed first in the 400 IM with Caleb Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) and Vizzard following in second and third.  In the 50 Free, Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) paced the pool with a time of 21.20. Minar would also go on to take first in the 100 Free with a time of 47.41.

On the diving board, the Pirates had a strong day with Trevor Post taking first in the 1M Dive with a score of 273.82 and second in the 3M Dive with a score of 227.92. On the flip side, Joel Satir took second in the 1M Dive with a score of 239.92 and first in the 3M Dive with a score of 280.50.

In the 500 Free, Langenbusch took first with a time of 4:45.44 followed by LaClair in a time of 4:48.43. The Pirates closed things strong, filling out the first and third place finishes in the 200 Free Relay.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Monmouth University men’s and women’s swimming teams dropped a non-conference dual meet to Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon at Imperatore Natatorium.

The Pirates earned overall victories in both men’s and women’s competition. Camryn McHugh picked up a pair of individual wins in the 100 back and 100 fly. Katie Parker, Callan Smith and Cole Dyson each added individual victories while both of Monmouth’s 200-yard freestyle relay teams won.

“Today was a tough contest against a very strong Seton Hall program. It was a really good meet for our team in terms of getting the opportunity to race against strong competition. I thought the team came out and showed great energy and raced well with a bunch of really good individual performances. – Camryn McHugh now has 44 career individual wins and four this season after taking the top spot in the 100 back (58.84) and 100 fly (59.76).
– Callan Smith added to his career victories total after placing first in the 200 back (1:52.57). Smith has 61 career wins and six this year.
– Cole Dyson hit the wall first in the 400 IM (4:15.63) to give him four individual wins this season and five in his career.
– Katie Parker won the 400 IM in 4:58.75 to secure her first individual win of the year and the second of her career. The time was a new personal best for Parker.
– Monmouth’s women won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.03 as Alexandra Ho, McHugh, Corinne Pepper and Parker combined for the win.
– The men’s winning 200-yard freestyle relay team clocked in at 1:26.06 with Smith, Blake Reynolds, Dylan Barkhuizen and Kevin Del Giorno teaming up for the triumph.

Monmouth returns home to Steadman Natatorium on Friday, November 5 for a conference dual meet against Iona.
