The Butler women’s swimming team earned 371 points at the 8th Annual Butler Invitational over the weekend, landing them in third place. Saint Louis took top honors with 742.5 points while Xavier landed in second with 663 point.
Other schools involved included Bellarmine (4th – 283 Pts), Southern Illinois (5th – 224 Pts) and Valparaiso (6th – 167.5 Pts). The meet also included six men’s teams that featured the five schools previously mentioned along with Ball State rather than BU. Southern Illinois took first place on the men’s side with Saint Louis and Xavier rounding out the top three.
Audrey Gosnell once again was a top performer for BU in the meet. Gosnell placed second in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.54 and was also part of the 200 Yard Medley Relay Team that earned second place. Grace Grzybek, Rebecca Duncan, Gosnell, and Tori Horton clocked in at 1:50.47.
Gosnell placed third in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:57.30. Joining Gosnell in the top ten were teammates Harriet Davies and Carolyn McGrail. Davies earned seventh with a time of 1:59.17 and McGrail earned ninth (2:01.12).
The 400 Yard Freestyle Relay Team also included Gosnell, Davies, Duncan and Horton. This group placed third overall with a time of 3:40.15.
McGrail returned to the pool to place third in the 200 Yard IM. The top BU performer ended the race in 2:15.91 and Rebecca Duncan placed fifth with her time of 2:16.95. Yet another third place finish would go to Butler in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Andee Bauer touched the wall in third place with a time of 5:18.89.
Madison Schluchterer swam well for Butler in the 8th Annual BU Invite. Schluchterer placed fourth in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:15.37. She also earned sixth place in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 18:36.45.
Additional top ten finishes for Butler included Grace Grzybek taking sixth place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:00.59 and Natalie Rohweder placing eighth in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:34.53.
