Ryan Smith of Maverick Swim Club Gives Verbal to South Dakota

Ryan Smith of Naperville, Illinois has given a verbal commitment to the University of South Dakota. Smith is a senior at Naperville Central High School. He swims year-round with Maverick Swim Club and specializes in distance.

Smith had a strong junior year, in which he notched personal bests in every event, and showed solid year-over-year improvement. He ended the year with a 17th-place finish in the 200m fly at the Illinois Senior Championships this past summer (2:19.51).

Smith’s best events are the 1650 free, 1000 free, 200 fly, and 400IM. Below are his times and progressions:

Smith would have scored for the Yotes at the 2016 Summit League Championships with a 15th-place finish in the 1650 free, and another 15th in the 200 fly.
