PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women’s swimming & diving team and its nine Scarlet Knight seniors competed in its final home meet of the 2021-22 season on Monday afternoon at the Rutgers Aquatics Center where they were edged by the Villanova Wildcats, 133-108.
A trio of Scarlet Knights captured two event wins against the Wildcats.
Graduate student Abigail Knapton continued to shine on the boards with the top scores on 1M and 3M.
Graduate student Alice Scarabelli and Sofia Chichaikina both helped the 400 medley relay team to the top time while Scarabelli put in a win in the 200 free and Chichaikina came in victorious in the 200 fly.
DIVES
The Scarlet Knights dominated the boards with the top five finishes on 1M and top four performances on 3M.
It was another sweep for Abigail Knapton taking the 1M crown with a score of 328.10 and the 3M title scoring 279.85.
Savana Trueb was the runner-up on 3M with 319.10 and placed third on 1M totaling 273.60.
Newcomer Giulia Vittorioso made her Scarlet Knight debut taking second on 1M with 275.60 while Jenna Douglass claimed third on 3M with a PR of 297.35.
Alice Scarabelli collected a victory in the 200 free hitting the wall in 1:51.03 and was the runner-up in the 200 back posting 2:04.77.
Sofia Chichaikina added another victory in the 200 fly in 2:01.04 with Katie Dougherty finishing third in 2:08.97 in her final home meet.
Another trio of third-place finishes were recorded by Sofia Lobova in the 50 free in 24.20, Liza Ryndych in the 100 free in 53.28 and Tina Celik in the 200 breast in 2:23.39.
DISTANCE
Cat Salladin was RU’s top performer in the distance events taking second in both the 500 free in 5:06.67 and 1000 free in 10:27.22.
The Rutgers women’s swimming and diving team concludes the dual meet season with a road trip to Nebraska. The Scarlet Knights and Cornhuskers meet on Jan. 28-29.
