KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island swimming and diving head coach Mick Westkott has promoted Anthony Randall to associate head coach and hired Amy Miksis as the team’s diving coach.
Randall (right) graduated from Rhode Island in 2008 and is entering his fourth season with the program. He will continue in his role as the team’s recruiting coordinator while also working primarily with sprinters and breaststrokers. Randall, who joined the coaching staff before the 2011-12 season, also coordinates the team’s dry-land training. In the last two summers, Randall worked at both the University of Southern California’s summer swim camp under internationally known head coach Dave Salo and for head coach Matt Kredich’s camp at the University of Tennessee.
A four-year member of the URI men’s program, Randall was a team captain as a senior. He went on to coach the club team to a national club championship in the 2010-11 season.
“Anthony has done a tremendous job in continuing to elevate the swimming and diving program at Rhode Island,” Westkott said. “I am very excited to name him the associate head coach, as this is a promotion he has earned through his exceptional work.”
Miksis (pictured above) comes to Rhode Island from Bryant University, where she was the assistant diving coach during the 2013-14 season. She also coached divers of all skill levels at the 2014 Brown summer camp.
An All-Ivy League Academic Team honoree for Brown, Miksis was a four-year letter winner for the Bears. She was a finalist at the Ivy League championships and a NCAA Division I Zone qualifier.
“We are very excited to add Amy to our staff,” Westkott said. “With her credentials both as a coach and as a former NCAA diver, she has a lot to offer our student athletes.”
Rhode Island opens its 2014-15 season Saturday, Oct. 18 with a quad meet at the University of Connecticut against the Huskies, Central Connecticut State and Yale. The first home meet of the season will be Friday, Oct. 24 against Maine.
