Relay Records Continue to Fall at Russian Junior Championships

The Russian Junior Championships continued today in Volgograd and once again a mixed relay record went down twice in one day. In the prelims the a team from Moscow set a record in the 4 x 100 mixed freestyle relay posting a time of 3:49.44. In the final a completely different squad from the same club destroyed the previous record winning the event in a time of 3:40.35.

In fact the top three teams in the final went under the record that was set in the prelims. Volgograd finished in a time of 3:42.22 while Sverdlovsk took the bronze in a time of 3:48.11.

The women’s 100 breaststroke was the race of the evening with only 58 one-hundredths of a second separating the top three women in the event. Ekaterina Mihailova took the event in a time of 1:12.26 followed by Margrita Dryamina who posted a 1:12.66 and Victoria Sozovova who recorded a 1:12.84.

Evgeny Somov, who finished second in the 100 breaststroke on Wednesday, took the men’s 400 IM in a time of 4:28.53. He was followed by Yaroslav Potapov who hit the wall in a time of 4:29.25 and Maxim Stupin who finished in a time of 4:31.35.

Unlike yesterday Volgograd only collected two silver medals one in the relay and Potapov’s in the 400 IM.
