OXFORD, Ohio – A busy weekend is in store for Miami University’s men’s swimming and diving team with two separate competitions. A portion of the team will travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on the Ball State Cardinals in Miami’s last dual-meet of the season. The remainder of the men will travel to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Ohio State Invitational.
Last Week…
The RedHawks return to the water after a loss to defending MAC Champions Eastern Michigan, 184-109, last weekend in the Nixon Aquatic Center. Miami currently stands a 1-5 in dual-meet competition for the season.
Junior Lucas Brock turned in a win for the RedHawks in the 50-yard freestyle after he clocked a season-best time of 20.85, edging out the Eastern Michigan competition by over half a second. Senior diver Cole Fryman took first in the one-meter diving competition, tallying an impressive 344.37. Senior Michael Nash was the next nearest RedHawk in third place.
Ball State
Ball State is coming off of a loss against Evansville, 151.5-148.5, and hold a 0-5 dual-meet record. Last season when the two teams met, Miami defeated the Cardinals, 160-135, in the Nixon Aquatic Center. Ball State will be Miami’s third MAC opponent of the season. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. in the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
OSU Invitational
Miami will also be represented in the Ohio State Invitational this weekend. The three-day competition kicks off this Saturday, Feb. 13 in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and the finals beginning at 5 p.m. Competition will continue the next day with prelims at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 4 p.m.Live results for the meet can be found here.
The Competition
The Cleveland State Vikings are coming off of a loss against Buffalo, 209-89. Last season when the RedHawks and Vikings met in dual-meet competition, Miami defeated Cleveland State, 120.5-108.5.
The University of Kentucky will be in attendance this weekend after their win against the Cincinnati Bearcats, 195-100. The Wildcats and RedHawks met earlier this season, when the UK diving squad attended the Miami Invitational back in December.
Ohio State closed out its dual-meet schedule with a win over Wright State, 192-125, finishing up the season with a 10-1 record in dual-meet competition. Miami fell to OSU, 175-101, when the two teams faced off earlier this season.
The Purdue Boilermakers enter the meet after a win against Northwestern, 186-167, and a lost to Minnesota, 224-129. Purdue wrapped up its season standing at 5-4 in dual-meet competition. Purdue defeated Miami back in October, 178-117.
Wright State is coming off of their loss against OSU, 192-125, earlier this month. Wright State and Miami have not competed in dual-meet action since 2006, when the RedHawks fell to the Raiders, 139-102.
A portion of the Ball State swimming and diving team will also be attending the OSU Invitational.
