Day two of the 2025 Lithuanian Swimming Championships transpired today in Vilnius with Olympian Danas Rapsys in the water to contest the men’s 200m free.
29-year-old Rapsys topped the podium in a time of 1:46.54, beating the field by over a second en route to gold and a new season-best.
Runner-up status went to Kristupas Trepocka who touched 1:47.72 while 16-year-old Tajus Juska, last night’s 50m free champion, rounded out the top three in 1:48.16.
Rapsys split 51.70/54.84 to get the job done, qualifying for this summer’s World Championships in the process. His winning result of 1:46.54 successfully cleared the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 1:46.70 needed for Singapore.
Rapsys now ranks 3rd in the world this season, with the Italian Championships, Aquatics GB Championships and Swimming Australian Championships on the horizon.
As for bronze medalist Juska, he doubled up with a second event, racing in the men’s 50m fly.
Juska stopped the clock at 23.76, setting a new Lithuanian national standard for 17&U swimmers. His outing represented his first-ever foray under the 24-second barrier, crushing his previous lifetime best of 24.05, which he notched in April 2024.
In fact, Juska’s time came within .18 of the current senior national record of 24.55 Tadas Duskinas put on the books in 2019.
Additional winners included Egle Salu, who won gold in a Ruta Meilutyte-less women’s 50m breast, hitting 30.97 ahead of University of Virginia commit Smilte Plytnykaite‘s time of 31.23.
Andrius Sidlauskas grabbed the men’s 100m breaststroke gold in 29.99 and Mantas Kauspedas earned men’s 50m back gold in 24.89 this evening.
Rapsys still a player at age 29. Maybe grab a medal at Worlds?
Small country, but damn, these guys have some quality swimmers!
