RACE VIDEO: Watch Michael Phelps Swim Butterfly During the 50 Free Prelims at the 2014 Arena Grand Prix Mesa

Swimming News – 2014 Arena Grand Prix at Mesa

Michael Phelps‘ second race into his comeback from retirement wasn’t as successful as his first. He finished 42nd in prelims of the 50 free, though it perhaps wasn’t as unsuccessful as that might look on paper. He swam the race butterfly, so in those terms his 24.06 wasn’t too bad (though something in the 23-second range would have been nice to see).

Watch the video of his swim above, and watch and see too where Nathan Adrian cruised to a 22.75 for the 4th-seed headed into finals above him in the middle of the pool.

Weird seeing him not breathe every stroke, though he did take 3 in a row near the middle of the race. Muscle memory, methinks.

Phelps managed to top LeClos’ 50 & 100 fly bests for 2014 by exactly a hundredth of a second in each.

Such a coincidence!

Can’t wait for Phelps vs. Le Clos in 100 fly in Kazan!
