BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — The Queens University of Charlotte swimming teams delivered dominant performances in their dual meet against ASUN foe Gardner-Webb on Saturday, January 18. The Royals claimed victories on both sides, with the women winning 122-77 and the men snagging a 107-92 win.
“Approaching our championship season, we are very proud of the hard work and dedication our swimmers have put in this season,” Associate Head Coach Elliot Ptasnik said. “This marked our final dual meet, and we will now ‘sharpen the blade’ going into the ASUN Championships. Thank you Gardner Webb for hosting us, the families and supporters who made the trip, and a big shout out and thank you to our seniors as they lead us to victory in their final collegiate dual meet.”
Both Royals relay squads took home the win in the 200 medley relay, with Maren Patterson, Madeline Foster, Libby Livesay, and Ryley Heck clocking in at 1:45.43 while the men’s squad of Caden Fritz, Cal Bartone, Nien Levy, and Matej Dusa touched the wall at 1:33.21.
On the women’s side, Katherine Bailey kicked things off with a win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:38.80.
Madeline Foster next shined in the 200 free, securing first place with a time of 1:56.00, followed by teammate Gavriela Daniels in second (1:59.45).
Abigail Zboran led a podium sweep in the 100-yard IM with a winning time of 57.04, accompanied by Tova Andersson (57.33) and Sabina Kupcova (57.90). Kupcova added another victory in the 500 free, clocking in at 5:14.37. Zboran would also snag the 200 fly win with a time of 2:06.83.
Bianca Wettel sprinted to first place in the 100 free with a time of 53.32, and Ryley Heck claimed third in 53.88. Haley Ross claimed the 200 back win with a time of 2:05.19, while Maren Patterson (2:06.84) and Tova Andersson (2:08.30) rounded out the top three.
For the men, Daniel Meszaros stole the show taking first place in the 200 free (1:42.28) and the 100 free (45.76). Matt Shanahan took home the win in the 500 free with a time of 4:48.08, while Lance Young finished third in 4:54.12. Matej Dusa sprinted to a win in the 50 free (20.78), with Nien Levy finishing second (21.03). Andreas Marz dominated the 200 back, finishing first with a time of 1:50.42.
UP NEXT
Up next, The Royals divers will compete at Davidson College on Feb. 1 for a 12 PM start. Royals divers Jacob Browne and Jacob Roberts dove in their first meets on Jan. 18 at UNC Asheville.
For the swimmers, Queens will be back in action for the ASUN Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. beginning on Feb. 19.

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University swimming team battled Queens in ASUN dual action on Saturday morning at Bost Pool, with the GWU men falling 107-92 and the GWU women falling 122-77
Despite the team defeat, Gardner-Webb still posted a series of impressive individual results, as posted below,.
Senior Emma Maust was an early leader for the Runnin’ Bulldogs in the women’s 100 yard freestyle, taking a second place run behind a time of 10:44.19 and a 29.20 second first leg split.
Gardner-Webb women picked up another strong result by way of sophomore Slawka Ndubuisi in the women’s 50-yard freestyle. Ndubuisi touched the wall, after 24.18 seconds, taking first place by just 0.09 seconds. Graduate Paris Binard came in not far behind for GWU in third, with a time of 25.79.
Binard, Maust and Ndubuisi would team up later in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay where the ‘Dawgs took top honors with a time of 1:40.05
Sophomore Alex Cook continued a solid run of form in the pool on Saturday as well. The Matthews, N.C. native touched the wall in 1:53.18 to win the men’s 200-yard butterfly by over two full seconds.
Defending ASUN women’s swimmer of the week, freshman Dakota Townley once again scored big in the women’s 200-yard backstroke. The Concord Township, Ohio native made up the first of each of the top three finishing spots for Gardner-Webb, winning with a time of 2:28.42
Lastly for Gardner-Webb, Austin Wheeler gave GWU another first-place finish. The senior from Flemming Island, Fla. posted a time of 2:07.76 to win the men’s 200-yard breast-stoke.
Gardner-Webb also managed a win in the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay, with sophomore Jacob Jensen, graduate Samuel Ospina, freshman Manuel Brander and senior John David Cass sprinting away for a time of 1:24.58 to take first place
Gardner-Webb swimming is back in action on February 1st, hosting Davison at Bost Pool at 11 a.m.
