Psych sheets for the 2014 Art Adamson Invitational, which runs from Thursday through Saturday at Texas A&M University, have been unveiled. This meet, which will play host to the Stanford Cardinal, Boise State women, LSU Tigers, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, Grand Canyon and Arizona State Sun Devils in addition to the host Aggies, will be one of the highest-profile mid-season invites on the college schedule.

While mid-season invites are notoriously loose on scratches, each swimmer at Art Adamson is allowed to score in 6 events, and most of the top swimmers are entered in fewer than that, so we can read a little into those entries.
The first will be a sigh of relief for American sprint fans, as Stanford freshman Simone Manuel is entered in the 200 IM, 50 free, the 100 fly, the 200 free, and the 100 free. The notable absence there is that there’s no 500 free on her schedule – a race that she’s swum at two of her four meets this season.
If we take mid-season entries as at least a vague indicator of end-of-season focus events, that’s a sign that Manuel will continue to focus on the sprint events where she has had much international success.
For the Stanford men, David Nolan will swim the 100 back, 200 back, and 200 IM, which has been his standard NCAA entry for all three years of his college career thus far (and he’s never placed lower than 4th in those events at NCAA’s either).
For the host Aggies, another National level swimmer Sarah Henry is entered in the 500 free, 200 IM, 400 IM, and the 200 free.
One of the best races of the meet will be the women’s 100 fly. There, Amber Carter from LSU, who is currently 2nd in the nation in the event, will take the lead against SMU’s Marne Erasmus, who was 3rd at NCAA’s last year; A&M freshman Beryl Gastaldello; Boise State’s All-conference sophomore Brittany Aoyama; and one of the fastest junior 100 butterfliers in history Janet Hu.

Very exciting to have this first “fast” invitational weekend of the year a day away! Lots of things to look forward to here at this meet! Some things that I’m interested in…which will help shed light on how teams are doing this year…

Yeah, I miss those interviews and video previews Garrett used to do. I was wondering if he got pushed out in a SwimSwam power struggle or something.
Ferb – there was and is no power struggle. Garrett is now the head coach of the Phoenix Swim Club, which created a significant demand for his time. Garrett will still do interviews from time-to-time as time allows, and is still a co-owner of SwimSwam.

Swam, with the event order over the 3 days at NCAA’s, what do you think Missy should do? If she doesn’t end up swimming the 500 on Day 1, that would mean a double on Day 2 (200 fr & 100 bk, with 100 breast for her rest) or Day 3 (200 bk, no rest, then right into 100 fr). What do you see as Missy’s 3 events this year?

I don’t see Manuel making the podium in the 500, but she might be able to swim fast enough in the morning to make the A final–but then she shouldn’t exhaust herself trying for a high finish in the evening.
Looks like Bobo can rest at ease knowing Stanford isn’t trying to make a distance swimmer out of Emanuel…
