Lincoln Southwest senior Kael Mlinek was on a tear at the Heartland Athletic Conference Swimming Championships this past weekend. The future Princeton Tiger posted lifetime bests in both the 50 free and the 100 breast.
Mlinek kicked things off in the 50 free, where he claimed victory with a 20.53, clipping his previous personal best of 20.57 by 0.04 seconds. He then went on to win the 100 breast with a 53.73, marking his 2nd-fastest performance of his career. The swim was his 2nd fastest because he swam a 53.32 in prelims of the meet, marking both a personal best and his first time under 54 seconds in the event.
On the relays, Mlinek posted a 23.50 breast split to help the Lincoln Southwest 200 medley relay team to victory. He also split 20.33 on the 2nd leg of the 200 free relay, which also won.
Mlinek was a 54.40 100 breaststroker when he committed to Princeton this past fall, meaning he’s now dropped a little over a second in the event since his commitment. Men’s Ivy league Championships will be underway next week, where we’ll get a chance to see where Mlinek’s new 100 breast PR, as well as his 23.50 relay split, would stack up in his future collegiate conference.
