One of the top local swimming committees (LSCs) in the swimming community, Potomac Valley Swimming, is providing assistance to aid Lahaina Swim Club recover from the devastating wildfires that occurred last summer. Potomac Valley Swimming has decided to help the swimmers in their community impacted by the destruction by aleiving travel cost for championship meets!
Our goal is to extend a helping hand to Hawaiian Athletes who face financial challenges in attending their meets and pursuing their passion for swimming. The Hawaiian Swimming general chair said these athletes are having trouble paying for the travel as they are trying to rebuild their homes and communities after the fires last season.
Our Swimathon will be run very differently, instead of having a set date/location we are asking for the teams to run it at each site! The individual site coaches would be dedicating a specific day for the swimmers to do their practice, which would then count towards the swimathon, they could even build it as a part of the set, so it doesn’t take away from practice. You can also just write a straight donation to help as well if you are feeling generous.
The funds raised will directly benefit the Hawaiian Athletes, assisting them with travel expenses, meet fees, and other necessities that might be challenging for them to afford. If you have any questions or would like more information about the Swimathon please send an email to us at [email protected]
Please consider donating even if you are outside of the Potomac Valley region. This will help these athletes aleiving travel cost for championship meets, and we cannot do it without the support of the swimming community!
