Pool Records Fall As Yale Takes On UMass In Unscored Scrimmage

AMHERST, Mass. – The Yale University women’s swimming and diving team broke four pool records during its competition at the University of Massachusetts. The meet was a non-team scored affair.

  • In an afternoon with 14 first place finishes, it was Caroline Riggs who won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:43.35. That time was not only a pool record, but also the fourth fastest time in the country this year. Riggs’ split in that event at the 1000 mark was also a pool record.
  • The third pool record that was eclipsed came courtesy of Sara Plunkett in the 100 backstroke (55.61). That was one of two first place finishes for Plunkett, who also touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle (23.78).
  • Yale received two relay top marks on the afternoon. The 200 medley relay of Quinn MurphyCharlize EscasaAlex Massey and Jessey Li was first in 1:44.03. Massey, Plunkett, Escasa and Li teamed up to finish ahead of the field in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:28.99.
  • In addition to their relay successes, Li and Massey also recorded individual first place marks. Li had the top time in the 100 freestyle (50.48), which was also a pool record. Massey accomplished the same first place effort in the 200 backstroke (2:03.91).
  • Junseo Kim was first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.77. Eunice Lee had a time of 2:21.25 to lead the way in the 200 breaststroke. Morgan Cady tallied a time of 5:03.09 in the 500 freestyle.
  • Rounding out the first place swimmers were Ele Donegan in the 100 fly (55.93) and Delilah Skaistis in the 200 IM (2:08.70).
  • Yale also received first place efforts in both diving events. Grace Wu scored a 305.93 on the three-meter board, while Lily Horenkamp registered a score of 291.00 on the one-meter board.

The Bulldogs return to action on October 26 for a meet at the University of Delaware.

AMHERST, Mass. – Five pool records came off the boards for the Yale University men’s swimming and diving team during its competition at the University of Massachusetts. The meet was a non-team scored affair.

The Bulldogs had a host of outstanding individual efforts on the day.

  • Arshak Hambardzumyan set a new pool record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:37.45. His mark was the fifth-fastest time in the country this year and a new UMass pool record.
  • The 200 medley relay of Jake WangAlex DengDeniel Nankov and Mak Nurkic Kacapor finished first in 1:30.45 and set a new UMass pool record.
  • The 400 freestyle relay of Ben Meulemans, Nurkic Kacapor, Lee and Wang also posted a pool record in 3:02.54.
  • Wang’s first place finish in the 100 backstroke (48.78) was also a UMass pool record. He also collected first place in the 100 fly in 49.05,
  • Deng led the field in the 200 breaststroke with a pool record time of 1:59.62.
  • Jose Cano also picked up a pair of first place finishes on the day. He took the top spot in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.77 and in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:36.17.
  • Jack Saber touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 57.74. Lucius Brown sprinted to a first place showing in the 50 freestyle in 20.62.
  • Nankov also registered a top mark in the 100 freestyle in 44.30. Elliot Lee claimed first place in the 200 backstroke in 1:49.91. Jed Jones did the same in the 200 IM, with a time of 1:54.26.

The Bulldogs return to action on October 26 for a meet at the University of Delaware.

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team completed its scrimmage against Yale on Saturday at the Joseph R. Rogers Jr., Pool.

The Minutemen and Minutewomen combined for five first-place finishes on the day, which included two gold medals for junior Andrew Bell. Bell completed the one-meter dive with a score of 371.93, while totaling a 393.98 in the three-meter dive.

Sophomore Lindsay Burbage placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.20, while freshman Hannah Schoenauer touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 2:06.77. Sophomore Aydin Erkan collected a gold medal in the 200 butterfly for the Minutemen with a season-best time of 1:51.98.

The Minutewomen posted 18 personal- and seasonal-best times, including a personal-best time of 24.28 for freshman Elizabeth Lahmann in the 50 freestyle, while the Minutemen saw 18, as well, which included personal-bests for freshmen Cam Wright in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.70) and Chase Keeler in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.45)
