“Bonnie Suter was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer on October 13, 2011 and was told her life expectancy was 2 years. 3.5 years later she continues her battle as there is NO CURE for Metastatic Breast Cancer… YET!”
When she was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, swim mom Bonnie Suter’s two sons, Zach and Garrett, were a junior and a freshman at Regis Jesuit High School. Now Garrett is a senior and one of the captains of the boys’ team. Over the past several weeks, Bonnie has been struggling and has had to be isolated for much of the time to keep from catching anything that could lead to an infection.
To lift her spirits, the team came up with the idea of painting the boys’ nails “Optimistic Pink” to support Bonnie in her fight against her cancer. On Friday and Monday, six team moms and one sister went to the Regis pool to paint the nails of 54 boys, moms, dads and the head coach, Nick Frasersmith.
The pink-nailed boys of Regis Jesuit will compete in their last dual meet of the season against Cherry Creek on Tuesday, with Bonnie Suter in the stands cheering them on.
