The Phoenix Swim Club has hosted its last meet in the confines of the Brophy Sports Campus, as their historic pool is now set to be razed and developed for residential space. The pool was built in 1988, 26-years ago, and has served its primary tenants well.
The Phoenix Swim Club will close out their run at the pool in March and then prepare to transition to the beautiful new 50 meter pool at Phoenix Country Day, but they sent out the old course with a win at the Arizona Senior Short Course State Championship meet last weekend, and head coach (and SwimSwam co-founder) Garrett McCaffrey was kind enough to send us a few snaps of her swan song, and forward some others on from Meet Referee Art Gramer.
Full results of the meet available here.
Cool way to end the story at this awesome facility with this storied club. Though I am so glad for Garrett and the PSC team that they’ve got a bright future ahead with a brand new pool, I am still sad to see this great racing pool being paved over. Also caught up in the Brophy Prep Pool closure is Grand Canyon University who had called this complex home, as well. Congratulations to Coach Steve Schaffer and his efforts for providing continuity to his team going forward!
Congrats Big Cat!

With all the noise and drama over the past year, Coach Garrett McCaffrey and his staff deserve kudos for continuing to coach and lead this team. Their single focus on the kids of this club should not go unnoticed. I’ve spent 15 years at this pool and am as sad as anyone to see it go. Change is never easy, but the coaches of both teams have handled this change with style and grace focusing on the kids and their successes in the pool. Thanks to all of the coaches at both… Read more »
Good thing SAC, didn’t have their Sectional Team Swimming…
So sad to see this pool go. It meant so much to me! Congrats to PSC on the great state meet, there couldn’t have been a better send off and a way to honor that pool than winning state!
We always loved going to that pool and racing! It was ALWAYS fast!
Gonna miss it big time! What a shame.
