QUOTABLE

Head Coach Ellie Monobe said: “I’m incredibly happy with our team’s performance today, and a lot of recognition goes towards our senior class. We had an outstanding end to the home dual season with a lot of season bests and exceptional racing against a tough APU team. Paulina Holmberg kicked off the meet with a phenomenal second place finish in the one-meter diving. I’m very impressed with Olivia Kayye’s wins in the 1000 and 200 breast, and Haley Bergthold probably had the most exciting wins of the day. The 100 fly has been an up-and-down event for her this season so it was good to see her end with a win, and she also had the win in the 100 back.

“All in all, I’m very pleased with how today went and we felt like it was a great sendoff getting ready for conference in a couple weeks.”

NEXT UP: Pepperdine will enjoy two weeks off before heading to St. George, Utah, for the PCSC Championships at Dixie State from February 16-19.

MALIBU, Calif. – Azusa Pacific women’s swimming & diving was in action Saturday and saw all three divers compete for the first time since before Thanksgiving. The Cougars competed in both the lanes and on the boards each looking to gear up for this season’s PCSC Championships in three months time.

Amy Crayne led the dive team as she placed first in both the one-meter and three-meter scoring at least 260 points in each. In the lanes, Montana White won a pair of events while Amanda Anderson took home one.

“We didn’t fair so well today points wise,” head coach Tim Kyle said. “But we still had some solid swims. Most all of our athletes swam at least one off event. It was great to get some more racing in.”

How it Happened: The Cougars started strong on the boards with each of their three divers placing in the top five in both the one-meter and three-meter. As mentioned above, Crayne took first in both recording scores of 269.18 in the one-meter before scoring 260.10 in the three-meter. McKenna Webster took second with 249.98 points in the three-meter and fifth in the one-meter with 218.18 points while Melia Stout took fourth in the one-meter with 222.30 points and fifth in the three-meter with 222.98. All three hadn’t competed since late November in the Winter Invitational. They will look to continue their momentum with the PCSC Championships in sight in three weeks.

In the lanes, Azusa Pacific started with a Hannah Frey second-place finish in the 1000 free which she swam with a time of 11:10.12. Before Anderson won the 200 free, which she does not normally compete in, edging out a Pepperdine swimmer by six tenths of a second with a time of 1:58.31. Tessie Scavone finished a second behind Anderson which was good enough for fourth place.

White claimed her first victory of the day in the 100 free blazing past the field with a time of 53.19, teammate Riley Smith took third place in the same event with a time of 54.76. White would later take home the 500 free with a time of 5:08.78 which was over 11 seconds faster than the next opponent. Delanie Gearing competed in the closest race of the day which was the 200 breast. Gearing finished in second with a time of 2:27.23, just four-tenths of a second behind the winner.

Anderson swam well in the 200 back with a third place finish before taking second in the 100 fly with a time of 59.41. The Cougars would take second place in the 400 free relay to close out the meet as the team was led by Smith, White, Scavone, and Emily Rigsby finishing with a time of 3:39.89.
