Navy opened up large leads on the 2nd day of competition, both in the men’s and women’s meet. Navy’s women took down conference records in the 200 IM and 400 medley relay.

Lauren Barber, a Navy junior, blasted a season best of 1:55.87 to win the event by 4 seconds. She was propelled by a monstrer breast split of 32.64, which is one of the fastest breaststroke splits in the nation this season. That time broke the previous meet and conference records of 1:57.89, which she set last year, and broke the Navy team record. Additionally, her time will all but certainly punch herself a ticket to the NCAAs, as it was 2 seconds faster than it took to get invited last year.

The Navy 400 medley relay team of Kaitlyn O’Reilly (55.26), Lauren Barber (59.51), Delaney Walz (54.06), and Casey Lawson (49.62) combined to break their own team, meet, conference, and pool records, which stood at 3:39.01. Barber had the fastest breast split in the field by 3 seconds.

Navy’s men’s 400 medley relay ran away with the event as well, posting a 3:11.66 to runner-up West Point’s 3:15.01. James Wilson led off the Navy relay in 47.37, followed by Michael Velazquez at 53.99, then Zachary Piedt at 46.91, and Joseph Jaime at 43.39.

Peter Mikheyev of West Point threw down a 24.91 on the final 50 of the 200 IM to beat out Vince Everman and Brayden Lauffer from Navy. Mikheyev went a 1:46.09 to Everman’s 1:46.80, and Lauffer’s 1:46.99. Mikheyev’s free split was faster than the field by a full second.
