PASA Boys, Carmel Swim Club Girls, Win Team Titles at 2014 Junior Nationals

The girls from the Carmel Swim Club, the boys from Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics, and the combined team from Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics won the 2014 USA Swimming Junior National Championship on Sunday night in Irvine, California.

The Carmel Swim Club girls were ineligible for the combined team total, as their boys didn’t score any points, but on the strength of four individual event wins (50 free, 100 free, 100 back, 100 fly) and a victory in the 400 free relay, they amassed a huge 290 points – 109.5 more than the runners-up from Y Spartaquatics. It’s also 28 points more than SwimMAC scored to win this title last year (SwimMAC was 3rd this year).

For Carmel and Y Spartaquatics, these are huge-impact finishes. The Carmel Swim Club girls were tied for 19th in 2013, and the Y-Spartaquatics girls didn’t score a single point.

The PASA boys in 2013 were 6th, and vaulted up to the top spot in 2014, led Aquatics boys, led by 66 individual points from Curtis Ogren and a lot of big relay scores.

With the PASA boys taking 1st and the PASA girls taking 5th, the combined PASA team were runaway winners with 305 total points.
