Park Cancels Olympic Committee Meeting At Last Minute

South Korean swimmer Park Tae Hwan was scheduled to meet with the Korean Olympic Committee today concerning his Olympic ban, but the 2012 Olympic medalist canceled at the last-minute.

Scheduled to meet with the KOC to review the organization’s additional 3-year national team ban to athletes having served doping suspensions, Park and his representatives were to arrive at the office of Secretary-General Cho Young-ho at 10am local time today. However, Yonhap News is reporting that just before 10am, Park asked that the meeting be moved to 2pm local, only to cancel the meting entirely right about noon.

In late April, Park filed an appeal against the KOC rule, which applies an additional 3-year ban on participating on national teams for those athletes having served doping suspensions, at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the highest sports tribunal. But, Park later asked the procedure to be put on hold so he could convene with the KOC directly before moving forward with legal action.

From the KOC point of view, the organization reiterates that it hasn’t reached a ‘final decision’ on Park’s status, thus rendering him unable to take the case to the CAS.

We will continue to report when additional updates are available.

uhhhh, maybe he got some news from the 2008 anti-doping retest. Hard to stand in front of a committee when you don’t have a leg to stand on?

This meeting strikes me as pretty dang important… I don’t want to jump to conclusions but I’m curious about what pressing event took precedence over this.

Maybe he had an appointment with his chiropractor that he forgot about.
