What follows are extractions from a press release from Pocono Family YMCA:

Emily Wolbert of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, has made a verbal commitment to swim for La Salle University. She has been swimming since the age of 4 for the Pocono YMCA Piranhas Swim Team, and she attends East Stroudsburg South High School, where she is the first person to achieve USA Swimming Scholastic All American honors in Monroe County.

Emily has been visiting La Salle University since she was a baby. La Salle has been the YMCA District meet host for years and Emily has been attending districts since she was born because her father has coached the Y team for the past 25 years. Emily chose La Salle not only for the team and coaching staff but also for the Integrated Science, Business and Technology department where she will “learn how new scientific discoveries develop into marketable products and services through collaborative business practices” according to the La Salle University website.

Her coach, Mike Wolbert, who also happens to be Emily’s Dad, is familiar with the La Salle program. When asked, Mike said “As a coach I think La Salle is a program where Emily can achieve all she wants to in swimming. Every swimmer that has gone to La Salle from Pocono has made significant improvements. As a Father, I am so proud of Emily and happy that she is going to the school I always hoped she would where she can get an outstanding education. Even though I won’t be coaching her she is close enough that I will be able to see her swim on a regular basis.”

The Explorers are excited to add a diverse swimmer like Emily to their team. Emily has been one of the top swimmers in the Poconos and recognized in the state for her entire swimming career. She has attended numerous YMCA District, State, and National meets and USA Swimming Junior Olympics and Zone meets. She has been a 9-time District Champ, 4-time Junior Olympic Champ and 4-time YMCA State Champion. In 2012, she was selected to attend the Eastern Zone Select Camp and in 2015, her 6th time at YMCA Nationals, she was a finalist in the 200 Butterfly.
