Springfield, Virginia native Aleksander “Olek” Tarczynski has committed to continue his swimming career at Division III’s Carnegie Mellon beginning in the fall of 2019.
Tarczynski was the 2019 Virginia High School League Patriot District champion in the 100 fly (50.84) and runnerup in the 200 IM (1:54.34). He went on to finish ninth in the 200 IM at the VHSL Class 6 state meet and was part of West Springfield High School’s fifth place 200 medley relay team.
Tarczynski qualified for the 2019 Futures meet in the 100 fly (49.77 SCY), 50 free (24.86 LCM) and 100 fly (57.73 LCM). He also qualified for the 2019 Winter Juniors meet in the 200 breast (2:03.43 SCY).
Tarczynski also swims for Machine Aquatics in Arlington, Virginia.

Tarczynski’s top 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 breast times would have led the Carnegie Mellon roster in 2018-19.
His best 100 breast time would have ranked third behind senior Winston Chu (56.06) and freshman Colin Daniel (56.85). Tarczynski’s best in the 200 IM would have been fourth among the Tartans behind junior Sam Hawke (1:51.82), senior Jack Lance (1:52.01) and freshman Daniel Ng (1:53.38).
