Ohio Sprint Freestyler Emmy Sehmann Makes Verbal Commitment to Wisconsin

Emmy Sehmann of Bowling Green, Ohio, has made a verbal pledge to the University of Wisconsin for the 2015-16 season. Sehmann swims for Bowling Green Swim Club and attends Bowling Green High School.

Sehmann is a national-level sprinter, having qualified for Winter Juniors in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles. She finished seventh in both the 100 and 200 frees at the 2014 Ohio State High School Division 1 Championships. In long course season, she was a B-finalist in both the 50 and 100 free at NCSA Summer Swimming Championships, and a D-finalist in the 200.

Sehmann’s top times include:

50y free: 23.40
100y free: 50.84
200y free: 1:49.76
500y free: 4:55.88
200y IM: 2:07.10
50y back: 27.58
100y back: 58.53
200y back: 2:05.82

Wisconsin is a great program for sprinters. Sehmann will be joining a class that includes recent commits Iris Brand, Emily Kosten, and Grace Tierney. While Brand and Kosten tend to excel in the shorter races, Tierney will likely focus on the 200 and above for the Badgers. Sehmann falls right in the middle of this group; she has the range to go either “up” or “down” in terms of yardage.

All those decisions will play out next year when the full squad is under the same roof, but it’s clear that Wisconsin is building a freshman class that will keep the Badgers’ sprint tradition alive, and make for difficult relays to beat.

along with Ari Saghari (CA) and Maddi Tew (WI), the badgers are bringing in some serious freestyle depth that should have a positive impact on all 3 free relays for a long time. It would be awesome to see their 800 FRR establish itself as a Big10 and NCAA title contender such has their shorter sprint relays. Whitney is on a roll!
