ROCHESTER, Mich – The Oakland Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive team wrapped up the Atlantic Challenge in Geneva, Ohio with remarkable scores from both the men (1352) and the women (1471.5). 

Totaling 39 events over the course of the weekend, the Golden Grizzlies secured 25 first-place finishes covering both the men and women competing in their respective events. Oakland competed against Duquesne University, George Mason University, St Bonaventure, and Cleveland State at Spire Institute.

The men’s 200-yard relay team finished with a final time of 1:22.58 to record the first win of the weekend challenge. Additionally, the men’s 200-yard medley relay recorded a final time of 1:29.54. Notably, the men’s 400-yard medley relay took first with a time of 3:17.54. And lastly, the men took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 3:00.45. 

The women secured first in the 200-yard medley relay finishing with a time of 1:43.80. 

Jonas Cantrell swam a 4:34.38 in the 500-yard freestyle finishing first. Alongside this, Cantrell earned first place in the 1650-yard freestyle at a time of 16:07.33. Marko Khotynetskyi recorded a time of 1:50.87 in the 200-yard IM. Khotynetskyi placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48:93. Notably, Khotynetskyi went on then dominate the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48:07. Christian Bart took first in the 50-yard freestyle with 20.61. Bart then took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55:38. Sam McKenzie took the title for both the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.99 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44:98. Harry Nicholson punched his first-place spot in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.72 with Khotynetskyi right behind him for second place. And lastly, Christopher Palvadre took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.39. 

Susan LaGrand recorded a time of 2:03.60 in the 200-yard IM. LaGrand went on to take first in both the 100-yard backstroke as well swimming in at a time of 56.24 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.96. Not only this but she received first place for the 200-yard butterfly coming in at a time of 2:05.22. Jordyn Shipps secured the 100-yard butterfly first-place spot with a time of 54.97. Sam Thiessen finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.38. Sohvi Nenonen took first in the 100-yard breaststroke coming in with a time of 1:05.36. Bella Gary earned her first-place win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.38. 

For diving, Ellie Chalifoux took first in the three-meter diving event with a final score of 293.75. And for the men, Nick Schmid came in fourth for the three-meter diving event with a final score of 232.05.

The Golden Grizzlies continue the season with Grand Valley State on November 11th at home.
