North Carolina’s Abby Fisher Called Up to 2014 Women’s NCAA Championship Meet

There has now been a second alternate called up to compete at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships: North Carolina freshman Abby Fisher has been called up for her first NCAA Championship qualification.

Fisher was the 2nd alternate upon initial release of the psych sheets, and became the 1st alternate when Purdue’s Rhi Sheets was called up last week.

Fisher qualifies with her 2:11.22 in the 200 breaststroke that had her ranked 31st on the pre-selection entry lists. She’ll also be entered in the 400 IM (4:18.02) and the 100 breast (1:02.30) at the meet.

The NCAA has not responded to our request for who scratched for her to get in, but North Carolina coaches tell us that an updated psych sheet is expected sometime on Thursday.

Although an outside shot to final, this added entry, coupled with their already strong team, gives UNC a great shot at top 10 and maybe even higher.
