New Trier’s Pearce Bailey and Joelle Ohr Verbally Commit to Cornell

Pearce Bailey and Joelle Ohr from New Trier Aquatics and New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois have both committed to the application process at Cornell University and will start in the fall of 2020.

Pearce Bailey

Wilmette, Illinois-native Pearce Bailey is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American who specializes in sprint free. He is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 50 free and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100 free. He swam both events at the 2019 Illinois IHSA Boys State Championships, coming in 6th in the 50 free (21.11) and 12th in the 100 free (47.04). He also contributed to New Trier’s 10th-place 200 free relay (20.66) and 15th-place 400 free relay (45.72). In club swimming, Bailey recently lowered his lifetime bests in the 100/200 free, 200 breast, and 100/200 fly. In August he went best times in the 50 free (23.83), 100 free (52.64), 200 free (1:59.64) and 100 breast (1:14.18) at NCSA Summer Championship. He placed 7th in the 50 and 22nd in the 100.

All of Cornell’s conference scorers in the 50 free will have graduated by the time Bailey suits up for the Big Red. He would have tied for 1st alternate in the event with current junior Cyrus Morrison, with whom he will overlap one year.

Joelle Ohr

Ohr hails from Winnetka, Illinois and specializes in sprint free, breast, and fly. She achieved lifetime bests in the 200 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast at NCSA Summer Championship. She also competed at NCSA Spring Championship where she notched PBs in the 50/200 free, 50 breast, and 50 fly. In high school she contributed to all three of New Trier’s relays at the IHSA Girls State Championships, splitting 23.15 anchoring the 200 medley relay, 23.55 anchoring the 200 free relay, and 51.94 leading off the 400 free relay.

Ohr would have scored in the C finals of the 50 free and 100 free at the 2019 Ivy League Women’s Championships.
