Inaugural 5K Race celebrates life of former NYU head women’s swimming coach Lauren Beam who passed away from colon cancer at age 34 in 2011
The Lauren Beam Foundation River Run 5K inaugural race in New York City on November 10 is aimed at celebrating Lauren Beam’s life and raising money for young men and women battling cancer. After Lauren passed away in September 2011, “Team Beam,” her fan club of supporters spontaneously organized an informal run in Central Park as a way to keep her unbelievable spirit and sheer determination alive. This run was born from that day, and represents something Lauren loved to do – run – as well as something that helps the human spirit defy the effects of cancer and fight it.
To register for the race and for more information, please visit www.laurenbeam.org.
Prizes to be awarded to top male and female finishers; Raffle to feature prizes from JackRabbit Sports, Chelsea Piers, Speedo, Downtown Cookie Co., Union Square Hospitality Group and Paragon Sports.

Thank you for sharing this SwimSwam! The Lauren Beam Foundation is about to host the 3rd annual River Run 5k in NYC on Nov 15th. We have had great attendances from NYU and Stevens (divisional rivals to NYU) swimmers. It’s great fun and helps fund the donations to help young men and women pay the bills of fighting cancer.
