Swimmers divide up into groups.

Each group of swimmers race in ” event domains”:

– distance guys race 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle

– butterflyers race 50, 100 and 200 fly

– backstrokers race 50, 100 and 200 back

– IMers race 100, 200 and 400 IM

Winners will be recognized in each domain as the swimmers with the fastest times overall from the three events.

Cal and Stanford won’t officially face-off until Feburary 22nd at  Stanford’s Avery Aquatics Center.

Gold Medal Mel…

There should have been a bigger crowd in attendance for a fabulous group of swimmers, but it was on a Wednesday afternoon at 2pm. Most Cal students in classes or studying, I would suppose. But what a great opportunity to see Nolan, Kremer and the great freshmen group at Stanford along with Murphy, Messerschmidt, Prenot, Pebley. Marcin T et al. The Women’s team with Missy and her cohorts always packs the place.

I really enjoyed the sunny day and being able to sit 6′ from the pools while watching these top rate student athletes,

Ryan Murphy didnt just win… he killed it. He absolutely murdered everybody. I am assuming the DQ in the 50 was from too long of an underwater? His 100 and 200 combined for almost 9 seconds faster than anyone else

Well, I just left this meet in Berkeley and must say that the format (Triple Distance Meet) was interesting albeit not indicative of great times that will come in this Winter/Spring dual and championship meets. I do not know how strong my Cal team will be as the 3 “H’s” did not participate (Hamilton, Hinshaw and Higgins). Even so, Cal still has some solid depth in many events.

Cal won most of the races and took i-2-3 in a number of events, but Stanford displayed yet another great Frosh class with Justin Buck (England), Jimmy Yoder (Georgia), Maxwell Williamson (Kentucky), Connor Black (Ilinois)—not so sure what he swam today.

Not to be outdone, Cal’s numero uno Frosh Ryan Murphy (Bolles,… Read more »

WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY… David Nolan is clearly a Distance freestyler I saw him swim the 100 fly once and concluded he will be swimming the Mile at NCAA, probably the 500 free and 400 IM too. On the other hand I also saw Jack Conger swim the 50 free and have decided that he will be a 200 breastroker. He clearly has no future in any other event- TheRealPsychoSwimdad

Or more to the point… Will we see our first head to head Nolan vs. Murphy?

I assume C. Black swims fly but once could make a case for him swimming freestyle.
