The Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawgs’ Taylor Pike had an impressive showing at this season’s AESC Elite Meet, winning a total of 5 individual events. 17-year-old Pike, who was named SwimSwam’s #9 recruit in thi year’s class, recently qualified for her first USA National Team. Her most impressive swim at this meet was arguably the 100 fly, where she won in 53.38, but was even faster with her 53.35 in prelims. Pike showed off her versatility and range, as she also collected wins in the 200 IM (2:01.98), 200 back (1:59.11), 500 free (4:50.19), and 1000 free (9:53.73) throughout the weekend.
Trident Aquatics’ Patrick Callan, a championship finalist at the U.S. Winter Junior Championships (West) earlier this month, picked up a pair of wins on the men’s side. He first won the 50 free final with a 21.04, but his fastest swim of the day was his quick 20.95 in the earlier rounds. Callan then went on to sweep the sprint frees, winning the 100 free in 44.89.
SSC youngster Aiden Hayes also posted a highlight swim. As the youngest swimmer in the final at 13 years old, Hayes raced to a silver medal in 51.56, taking 2nd only to AESC’s Luke Davis (50.78). Hayes went on to collect another top 8 finish in the 100 back (54.45), while Davis added to his medal total with a 3rd place finish in the 200 free (1:43.93).
