WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –  The Monmouth University swimming teams completed a successful Saturday by defeating Manhattan, while the women’s team narrowly defeated Siena at Steadman Natatorium.

Callan Smith led the men’s team by winning three individual races for the second straight meet. On the women’s side rookies Tahlia Botha and Alexandra Ho each turned in three first-place times.

The men defeated Manhattan 163-94 to improve to 5-1, while the women’s team moved to 4-3 on the year with a convincing win over the Jaspers, 194-52, and a narrow victory against Siena, 137-124.

– Sophomore Callan Smith won the 200 free, 200 back and 500 free. Smith has nine first-place finishes in 2019 and 40 for his career.

– Rookie Dylan Edge placed first in the 100 back (52.06) and the 200 fly (2:01.48) and he now has six wins in 2019.

– Freshman Blake Reynolds touched the wall first in the 50 free (21.55) and the 100 fly (51.32), giving him eight wins this season.

– Junior Trevor Askew came in first place in the 200 breast (2:!1.49) to win his 10th race of the year. Askew has 16 individual victories for his career.

– Rookie Thomas From increased his season wins total to six with his win in the 100 free (47.87).

– Monmouth’s men won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:31.47 as Edge, Askew, Reynolds and Valance Washington teamed up for the victory.

– On the women’s side, freshman Tahlia Botha contributed three more individual wins, winning the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. Botha has won 12 races so far this season.

– Classmate Alexandra Ho has eight wins on the year after winning the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free.

– Sophomore Camryn McHugh won the 100 back and 100 fly to stamp her seventh win of 2019 and the 31st of her career.

– McHugh, Botha, Ho and Bradie Keelen combined to win the 400-yard medley relay, clocking in at 4:02.35.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
– Alexandra Ho set a new personal-best time in the 50-yard freestyle, winning in 24.74.

– Dylan Edge set a new personal record time of 52.06 with his first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.

– Thomas From won the 100-yard freestyle in a new personal best time of 47.87.

UP NEXT
Monmouth is back home at Steadman Natatorium on Friday, November 22 for a matchup with St. Francis Brooklyn, beginning at 6 p.m.

West Long Branch, NJ – Sophomore Braden Deiss (Benoni, South Africa / Crawford College Lonehill) led the way for the Manhattan Swimming team, collecting one win with a pair of second-place finishes in a tri-meet at Monmouth.

Deiss was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:02.23, while finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle and as a member of the 200 freestyle relay team.

Senior Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY / Chaminade) also had a strong day for the Jaspers. Valentine won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.96, while also earning the first position in the 200-yard IM. Valentine closed his day with a second-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Junior Artur Polyak (Haifa, Israel / Pittsburgh) led a relay team of sophomore Michael Popescu (Matthews, NC / Marvin Ridge), junior Derek Lederer (Blauvelt, NY / Tappan Zee) and junior Charles Ledda (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield) to a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Polyak also earned two second-place finishes in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke.

On the women’s side, freshman Mackenzie Tuttle (Highland Mills, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) recorded two second-place finishes, highlighted by posting a school record time of 10:46.87 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Classmate Ciara Dalton (Pleasantville, NY / Byram Hills) also had a showing, finishing second in the 200 yard IM.

For the meet, the Manhattan men’s team fell to Saint Peter’s 163-94, while the women’s team was defeated by Siena 204.5-44.5 and Monmouth 194-52.

Manhattan concludes the fall portion of its 2019 schedule at the ECAC Championships December 6-8 in East Meadow, NY.

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Siena Swimming & Diving (2-4, 2-1) took home five event victories, saw seven swimmers register a best time and picked up its second dual meet win of the year Saturday afternoon in MAAC tri-meet action. The Saints took down conference rival Manhattan, 204.5-44.5, while falling narrowly to host Monmouth, 137-124 at the Steadman Natatorium.

Freshman Reilly King continued her hot collegiate start in the pool, winning the 1000 freestyle with a new personal best of 10:46.82, the 500 free with a new best time of 5:17.94 and placing third in the 200 backstroke with a new best time of 2:15.77.

Classmate Jessica Shine took home an individual win in the 200 butterfly (2:13.19), while sophomore Isabel Harms won the 200 backstroke (2:10.71). The team also registered its first relay victory of the 2019-20 campaign, with seniors Alyssa Lewis & Rachel Brown teaming up with freshmen Rory Kalac & Elisabeth Balicanta to take the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay.

Kalac and Lewis were among the seven Saints to post a best time during the meet, with the Sugar Land Texas Product doing so in the 50 free (25.10) and the Wilmington, Ohio native breaking a three-year-old mark in the 100 back (1:04.07).

Junior Sydney Lautenslager continued her reign as the veteran Saints’ swimmer to have set the most best times on the season thus far, hitting benchmarks in the 200 IM (2:20.07) and the 1000 free (11:09.74).

Rounding out the Saints to post career times were sophomore Abigail Sheridan (200 fly, 2:13.26), freshman Emma Mauro (100 breast, 1:17.80) and Ellie Murphy (50 free, 27:08)

Siena walks away with a pair of dual meet victories during its Fall 2019 slate and will round out its 2019 calendar schedule at the 2019 ECAC Winter Championships from De. 6-8 in East Meadow, NY.
